When it rains in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (which is often), you soon learn why "Smoky" is part of its name. Those enchanted rivers of mist streaming up the mountain are made from a combination of moisture, humidity, temperature change and the super-science'y volatile organic compounds that the plants release.
