Cityscape Photography: panoramic b&w shots of lower Manhattan, New York City

in #photography7 years ago

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

While I usually prefer natural places to urban sites when on travels, I have visited a bunch of big cities too. I will never forget, for example, how astonished I felt when I got off the bus (coming from rural Maine! :D) at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in the Midtown Manhattan and saw all those high-rise buildings for the very first time.

New York City is a truly unique and extraordinary place and I am really glad I have had the chance to visit this vibrant metropolis on several different occasions but to be honest with you, I can always stay there for a couple of days only as I quickly tend to get overwhelmed by all the hustle and bustle there :D

Here is a few shots of the Lower Manhattan skyline that I took from the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the city´s most iconic landmarks. I have been recently playing with monochrome a bit and I found these cityscape photos quite interesting in b&w so I am submitting them like this. Let me know if you like them ;)

@phortun very nice panormic view.

Great captures. Oh do I miss NYC.

Thanks :) I didn´t know you come from NYC... You don´t like Cali better?

Yes. Lived in NY for about 20 years. Spent many summers in Southern Cal with relatives. Later worked/Lived in NYC. I miss NYC, but will always live where I live!

Great photos. I think New York definitely looks amazing in black & white and this is one of my favourite parts of the city too!!

Thank you so much, glad you liked these ;)

Really great shots man, I never had an eye for city photography but you seem to catch it quite well. The grey edit gives it a old school feeling to it.

Thanks @holm! Like I said in the post, I definitely prefer natural environment to cities (the older I am, the stronger my desire to be close to nature is) but when on travels, you just have to visit cities too sometimes and some of them, like this one for example, are pretty photogenic too. But most of my blog consists of nature-related posts, like yours...

Yep. I like the monochrome @phortun and I especially like the shots with no people in them.

They remind me of those old black and white photographs of the steel workers sitting on the beams eating their lunch. Especially the top one. 😊

Oh, I know what photo you mean and you are right, there are some similarities :) Thanks for stopping by Gillian!

Yes I like these photos. I love b&w photos. My 16 yr old daughter loves the city. I will show her these. I am sure they will be a favorite of hers.

Thank you Beth, hopefully your daughter will like them too :) Does she have a Steemit account?

She does not. She is 16 years old competitive gymnast so she really doesn't have time for steemit yet.

V černo-bílé to nevypadá tak chaoticky. ;-)

Jojo, působí to trochu klidnějším dojmem než v reálu ;)

Big city life photos for sure!

Krásné fotky. Záběr mostu bez turistů je asi utopie.

To jo, asi jedině když se tam točí nějaká hollywoodská ptákovina :D

These are wonderful! I am with you, though, the city is not a place I can stay for more than a couple days. To me, it is great for photos and a contrast to my daily life, but my anxiety is at it's highest level in city crowds and stale air.

Thank you for stopping by, I can totally relate to what you said. I hate being surrounded by crowds of people and NYC, among other things, is about crowds of people so it is difficult for me to stay there longer than a few days :)
