Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!
As promised, following the great success of the insect photo contest that I hosted two weeks ago, I am here with another round of this fun challenge where all bug photo enthusiasts are welcome :)
Close-up of a large rhinoceros beetle that I captured in Colombian mountains a few weeks ago.
This time around, however, I prepared a more attractive prize pool to reward all the great entries that I will (hopefully) receive in the contest. There will be 5 winners who will get 5 SBI shares each from me but there will also be 5 runners-up who will get my full upvotes on their entries, which means that as many as 10 participants will be rewarded this time.
The rules remain unchanged and simple:
1) Only 1 entry (photo) per person.
2) Only your own photo.
3) Add a short description to the photo (at least 20 words please).
Upvotes and resteems are not required but will be highly appreciated of course since I am, as always, funding the prizes from my own pocket.
As I am expecting even greater response to the contest this time, I might also ask some participants to prove their ownership of the submitted entries in case of doubt to keep the contest as fair and honest as possible.
You can start submitting your insect photos in the comment section below from now until Wednesday (June 19), 8:00 P.M. CET.
I am looking forward to checking your submissions :) Have a wonderful day and keep on steeming guys!
Found this beautiful beetles when I do gardening at my back yard. Tried to google search it to find out what kind of beetles is this, but couldn’t. Because there are so many type of beetles and I have a hard time to figure it out. Thanks @phortun for hosting this contest! This my entry 😉
Awesome entry, thank you so much for joining :) Can you pick and submit just one of these shots please? :)
oh sure! sorry I didn’t read carefully lol
Beautiful photo, of a very interesting looking beetle!
I missed the first round and now I am happy to submit my photo that I took two days ago. It was a hot day and I was on a street with roses where I took many photos of the flowers. As usual I was looking close for anything small that maybe hiding and I saw this little one sunbathing on top of the flower.
Samsung J5 smartphone camera
I am glad you didn´t miss this round :) Great macro!
Thank you! Diky! :-)
Great photo!!
Thank you kindly. Glad you like it.
Hi @phortun, thanks for your initiatives and below picture is my entry of this contest.
Butterfly
Couple of days ago I went to a plant house and found some trees with beautiful flowers and few Butterflies roaming around. I've followed couple of them and able to capture few pictures & videos.
Here I'm posting one of the pictures captured in that good moment. Hope you like the colours.
Beautiful butterfly! Thanks for your entry :)
Thanks for your comments! I just love the colour of it! Colourful!!

Thank you so much!

Well this was a hard decision to make between my two favorite photographies i took last weekend, but you can still see the other ones in my blog post.
This one is a Libellula depressa, or also known as broad-bodied chaser. It's very common in Europe and i managed to photograph this one at our own pond.
Personally i totally love its blue chitin-plates.
I checked that post. Astonishing close ups. Congrats and thanks for your entry :)
In this photo, my close acquaintance with the butterfly, which is called - Cardinal.
This is a cautious butterfly. I had to convince her that I did not represent a danger to her. As a result, I got a picture in which the butterfly proboscis is very clearly visible, at the moment when she drank nectar from the thistle flower.
Stunning details :) Great entry! Thanks.
I found this moth/butterfly on my front step a couple of days ago. Initially I only saw the wings and their markings. Once I took a few photographs, it moved and colors emerged that were hidden by the wings. I have no idea if this is a butterfly or moth, I just know it is beautiful!
Beautiful close up, it is an honor for me to have you in this contest :) Thanks for your entry Cornell.
Fire insects are animals whose mouths are pointed and venomous, if the bite is affected it will feel sore and even hot on the skin when bitten.
I found this insect on an eggplant tree near my house, he happened to sleep, so be careful not to disturb the life and nest because he will sting our skin.
Thanks for your entry. Can you please pick just one of these photos and extend your description to at least 20 words?
Pani vážka na žabke:)
Krásná, pamatuju :) Tak o ní ještě něco napiš, pokud možno anglicky :)
Great photo!!
I took this photo today in my garden. It's a rose chafer, also called as the green rose chafer. The beetle is between 14 and 20 millimeters long and eats nectar. Often seen on flowers. :)
I love its color :) Impressive shot, thanks buddy :)
It's nice to see a new photo contest on Steemit!
Here is my entry for this round:
This is the face of Vespa mandarinia japonica, the Giant Asian Hornet. This is a social wasp and can be found throughout Japan and East Asia as well, Japonica is a sub-species but the size really doesn't change all that much. Found this one recently deceased, I think it drowned, they are, ironically, rather weak to heavy rain.
More information and photos here: Giant Hornet
Woooow so all those photos in that post are actually yours? That is awesome. I didn´t know it. Are you a pro photographer?
@mweich, amazing capture. like, for 20 seconds I tried to figure out what is on the picture, what insect I see it here. only after that, after reading, I suddenly understood I see a portrait, that its just a single head !!!!! oh my ... what lens did you use, how its capable to achieve such a magnification ?!?!
Wow, wow, terrific photo! Fantastic close-up.:-)
Tuto krasavici jsem potkal na naučné stezce na lukách v okolí Starého Plzence. Netuším, jaká je to vážka. Nejsem odborník, odonatolog ;)
I met this beautiful girl on a nature trail on the meadows around Starý Plzenec. I don't know what a dragonfly is. I'm not an expert, a odonatologist ;)
Parádní kousek. To ti vzal takhle hezky mobil? :)
Byla to veliká vážka a seděla klidně. Mobil to zvládnul.
This is really a beautiful dragonfly!!
Thank you ;)
The Butterfly
This is second frame from insane butterfly madness caught last week. Just to remind on the way to stores some pretty hot noontime few days ago have noticed amazing quantity of butterflies flying around all the flowers alongside the road.
So couldn't miss this possibility and to get few shot on ease :)
Took magic manual focus lens with macro adapter to my DSL. and here we go, few pretty decent macro shots done handheld.
Some color grading in post-production
Enjoy the close view :)

Was really curious why nobody have posted yet ;)

Nice photo.
Hi there, "We want butterflies back!" told the Czech PM Babis. So here is my contribution of the specie Vanessa Cardui (babočka bodláková). It's true that many species of insects are almost exterminated and it's irony of faith that Czech PM has also his guilt on this state.
My chceme taky motýle!
:D
Díky za účast, pěkná fotka :)
Beautiful butterfly!!
I found this crazy little creature outside, sunbathing on my flower. he was brave enough to go enjoying on this flower, because that is a carnivorous flower and she is feeding herself with similar insects. But he was too big for her, so she left him alone. I need to say he was very brave during the photoshooting. :) Such a beautiful colors but I'm still not sure if I can identify this particular beetle :)
Stunning close up! Thank you for joining the contest :)
Thank you :) I'm glad that I found this contest :)
Great photo!!
Thank you 😶😶
wow! I love the shot, and the story, as well. always tempting to see such braveness!
Thank you :) brave beetle and he is still living on my balcony 😂
still living?!! haha. cool. seems he loves it :-)
I have a jungle on my balcony, soooo many flowers and he found his place :) I don't know for how long because it's really hot here 😁
Hi Phortun ;)
Great beetle you captured there, especially the saw!
Here's my entry. I captured this little scarab beetle on my balcony.
It's the fifth floor and i told my little friend: Don't do it, don't jump...
Nooo! And he didn't... he flew away ;)
A little flat joke for my entry ;)
Greetings.
Resteemed.
Nice! Thank you :)
You're welcome :)
Splendid shots =)
Thanks. Feel free to submit your own too :)
Hello @phortun, my entry:
This strange beetle, I found it in the window of my balcony, I did not find its name in Internet, but I placed the beetle with two eyes.
It is a bit ugly and strange.
@carlagonz, show your creativity.
Very interesting creature, thank you for sharing it with us :)
We do have a firefly sitting on the side of our house. Will try to capture a picture of it this evening! If it is still there ofcourse!
Awesome, hopefully, it will still be there :) I haven´t seen a firefly for years.
It was still there, but I will be using 2 pictures.
The first one was taken with a flash. It is pretty dark at that side of the house, so without a flash I couldn't be sure what kind of insect it was!
As you can see nothing special! The problem was that they do switch out the light mode when they do see light! So I had to wait some time before I could capture the magic!
It maybe isn't the nicest shot, but I did have to take it with the camera of the mobile.
But it really shows the magic of nature!
Hope you like it!
Cheers,
Peter
Very cool! In this case, for obvious reasons, I don´t insist on submitting just one photo :) Thanks for this great entry.
Caterpillars are a beautiful insect. Now the breeding season of Caterpillars continues. I took the picture from the front of our mosque.
Thanks for the entry, but please add at least a 20-word description to it.
Okay

Test on Steemit :D
Co si tu v mé hmyzí soutěži prosím tě testuješ? :D
:D ten palnet som testoval..ci to teda fakt vsetko bezi na rovnakom blockchaine a je prepojene :D
Posted using Partiko Android
Jo, je to propojené :) Jak jsi naložil s tvými Paly?
Powerupol, Ty? :D
Posted using Partiko Android
No vidím, že to máš v likvidní formě :)
Já to hned prodal (cca 1000 Palů za asi 37 Steemů), ale ty další, co získám na postech, si asi budu nechávat a power-upovat, vypadá to zatím docela zajímavě...
what results did the test display?.. @matkodurko

i will participate let me take a picture....
Here is a bug we found in Ecuador, it looks like a mantis of some sort. Not the prettiest of pictures because the good camera wasn't ready and the insect flew away. There's no bugs like that around here, Crypticat keeps things clean.
Wow, what a curious fella! Very interesting. Thanks for your entry.
Very nice contest just saw it. Shoot this little beetle 2 weeks ago on one of my daily walks. It's as small as the nail and it's very difficult to shoot it. You can see full series here if you like - > https://steemit.com/actifit/@outlinez/actifit-outlinez-20190527t172049303z
Wow, looks like an alien :) Superb capture. Thanks for jonining the contest.
Thank you @phortun
very lovely beetle, and impressive capture. thanks a lot! @outlinez
Thank you @qwerrie . Glad you are enjoyed
Not quite a insect but more an empty shell of an insect. Found it like this on top of my tent in the morning. Only had the phone on me at that time so probably could have been better :D
Are you sure it was just an empty shell? :D Looks very live actually. Or like a jewel made of gold :) Cool entry.
Completely empty lol. I took it up after and nothing inside, it had a part of it open :D

This fly I photographed in the small coastal town of Jongensfontein in South Africa.
Thank you for hosting this very nice competition.
Thank you for joining, you submitted an awesome shot again :)
Actually I accidentally photographed this grasshopper. My initial intention was to take pictures of flowers, but during the photo session, there were small grasshoppers taking pictures. Not bad...
Very nice "by-product" haha :) Thank you for your entry.
I was taking photos of the Mint in my garden, when this little guy came into the shot, showing off his fancy iridescent armor. I guess he wants to be on Steemit as well! :)
A true Steemit star :) Thanks for this nice entry.
hello @phortun! I am late but hope not too late
anyway the awareness is raising, I see a lot of delicious macro stuff arrived. your rhinoceros is among the most delicious ones :P
I brought you a spider today.
two weeks ago I did a smal walkaround my office place, which resulted in solid photosession with macro. mostly I captured the spiderwebs and all the rubbish stuff they captured. one spider came didnt afraid and came to me to establish a close (eye to eye!) contact and even created a strange 5-8 seconds dance for me! after getting acquainted, he run back to his hoarding place, but before that he tried to clean his web of a few dandellion seeds. this is exactly what happening on the shot. hope you enjoy it!
It is a bit after the deadline actually but great shot and nice story, thank you! :)
