A bit later than usually but here I am, coming with my entry for the current round of the People Photography challenge hosted weekly by our one and only Chris aka @worldcapture.
I know the photo that I am submitting to this week´s round might look somewhat disturbing but trust me, it is not what it looks like ;)
Yes, I know the scene looks like a Ku Klux Klan gathering but in fact, it is just a traditional Easter procession that takes place on the Maltese island of Gozo every year. I don´t remember what exactly this procession was supposed to represent (I took this photo almost six years ago) but it probably was just symbolizing something from the Bible as some of the masked guys were carrying large wooden crosses while others had their feet tied up by massive chains.
The procession was slowly moving through the old streets of Xaghra, a picturesque little town located on the northern coast of the Maltese island of Gozo.
The town is also known for being home to the renowned megalithic temples of Ggantija that date back to as early as 3600 BC. Just outside of the town, among the majestic cliffs overlooking the nearby Ramla Beach, there is also the Calypso Cave where, according to an ancient legend, Calypso the Nymph kept Odysseus (the main hero of Homer's epic poem the Odyssey) for seven years.

Myslím si, že více jak polovina steemerů oplývá inteligencí. Proto v těchto kajicích kápích nikdo nebude hledat oděv Ku Klux klanu. Tento oděv kajícníků se užívá od dob počátků katolické inkvizice (nejsem si zcela jist, ale dokonce možná pochází z Malty). Dodnes se tento oděv běžně užívá při svátečních procesích třebas ve Španělsku nebo v zemích latinské Ameriky.

It is a picture of people sacrificing during the Holy Thursday maybe. We have it representing Jesus who was carrying his crux.
