After spending six days exploring Oslo, a fantastic city, I took the train to Bergen. I was told it is the best train ride in the world because of the views. It didn't disappoint. The first few hours are sort of teasers for the amazing views the last few hours brings. I knew ahead of time which side of the train to sit on (left) and selected a seat so that I could get the most out of the window view. Shooting through pane glass is never fun, glare city - so I had tossed a shirt in my camera bag in an effort to block out the internal lights or general glare.
Across from me were a nice old couple from Northern Norway. Personally knowing about 5 Norwegian phrases and them not really knowing English, we talked as best we could using hand gestures or pulling up pictures. I showed them google translate, which helped the conversation a bit - they thought it was something out of Star Wars. The husband talked about how you can see Russia from the house he grew up in and how they are quite friendly with Russia in the North. When I'd try to take a picture and not get it before going back into a tunnel, the wife would laugh like it was the first funny thing she had seen in her life - this went on for the last 3 hours of the trip.
Like I mentioned, the views along the train tracks are amazing. One day I want to spend an extended period going slowly east to west through Norway and really seeing the country. Camping in the fjords and seeing much more of the country has been added to my future rounds of trips. And a cheap hack, rather than pay $30 for a burger, 7-11 pizza in Norway is good and dirt cheap.
More shots tomorrow. I'm obviously new to the community, so please feel free to drop a comment on tips you wish you knew starting out.
