Norwegian landscapes: Deep into the boreal forest

in #photography5 years ago

Hi Folks!

I was on a short walk 2 days ago, I visited a part of a forest which I discovered last year during mushroom picking.
In this part I really loved the moss cover of the forest floor. Almost like a miagical woodlands from fantasy tales.
I didn't get the best light there, wish to re-visit the place with more moody sunset light or morning fogs.

On this picture - motive made from dead trees, tree trunks and moss... it doesn't look like but it is panoramic shot :) made from 5 separate shots.

What was interesting - I decided to put away modern AF lenses and instead of them, I put on my old, manual Helios 58mm - that is why I had to make panoramic shot to catch bigger objects. 58mm instead of 16mm I use - really huge difference :)

What I love in old manual lenses are their brightness - f2.0 - which is perfect for low light conditions and has amazing effect on smooth and interesting bokeh (blurred background).

This is one more shot from that session - One of the most wanted mushrroms in the forest - Boletus edulis (PL: Prawdziwek)

As You see the light is nice and smooth, bokeh amazingly blurred, sharpness could be better, but this is how it is in old lenses...

During my walk I also tried to capture some other interesting looking natural motives...

Below few examples of what I managed to capture.

Many thanks!

Awesome pictures! I particularly like the mushroom. I've got a handful of older manual Minolta lenses that I ought to break out and start using.

You should try it! Old lenses have sometimes "soul" :) and we can use it to get nice effects and some extra inspirations. Thanks for the comment!
