The Southern Right Whale was almost hunted to extinction! Due to the increase in conservation efforts and the ban on whaling, the population numbers have recovered. In whale season from June to November, they can be seen along the South African coastline, in particular around the Western Cape. They mate or give birth, before heading back to feeding grounds in the southern oceans.
