SLEEPING BEAUTIES #5 - Route 66 and other roadside-wrecks --- Route 66 und andere Straßenseiten-Wracks

in #photography8 years ago

Dear Steemians

As you know, I travelled on Route 66 in March this year. During this wonderful trip, I was prepared for a lot of things, such as great landscapes, buildings, roadside attractions, ruins, cars in good and poor condition, as well as on wrecks. But I would never have dreamed of seeing so many old-timer wrecks. One still can see nowadays that they once belonged to the beauties of the American Highways. Some appeared certainly already in various sequences of my Route 66 Series, but I think these fantastic parts from well-formed metal deserve to be presented separately.

Here is the fifth of my series of American and other Road-Side-wrecks. I call them

SLEEPING BEAUTIES

I have absolutely no idea of what make or model this car is, although there are some written clues on it. I'll give a full 100% upvote (don't expect to much - I'm a small 🐟) to the first comment revealing the correct make and model!

I hope you enjoy and wish you all a wonderful day, dear fellow Steemians!

See you!

Liebe Steemians

I edited this first photo a bit - could not resist. All the others are unedited.

Viel Spass!
If you like to contribute to the "Sleeping Beauties" series, feel free to do so! It is not a challenge, but if you have some nice photos of wrecks, post them and simply use the hashtag #sleepingbeauties among your five tags. I'll take a look from time to time and if they match - they must really be 'sleeping', no restored Oldtimers please - I'll for sure will 100% upvote and resteem those old ladies. I love these old herbage flanked, rusty beauties and will enjoy every entry. Have fun!

I'm wrong!

It's a Mercury Commuter wagon!

That's correct! And with your help I now found out that it is a 1959 model. This is a 100%upvote for you!
Have a wonderful day, my friend!

Wonderful! Upvoted & resteemed :)

Thank you so very much, Denise! :)

Old cars are so cool.

Yes, they are indeed, Joe! I could spend hours and hours with these old ladies.

A wonderful Sunday to you, my friend!

You are so welcome, my friend ;)

Love the idea of #sleepingbeauties . If it had been a few years earlier I could've snapped a picture of my dad's old Bristol 401 that was rusting in a garage for most of my childhood. The heap was eventually sold and restored, and drove my sister to her wedding. I got a ride too - very cool old car!

Indeed it is a very cool old lady! Maybe you find old photos of it before the restoration.
Have a wonderful Sunday, my friend! :)

That makes me sad. If I could I'd fix up every neglected car I found lol

I have the same feeling, when I see them! So I liked the idea to honor the old ladies here as sleeping beauties. :)

Great post and photos dear friend :) Up&Resteem

Thank you so very much, my friend! :)

Very welcome dear friend :)

Pipurilla,

Is it a Mercury Colony Park station wagon?

Your other response was right and you got an 100% upvote on that comment! :)

Sehr schöner Post! Ich finde diese alten Autos so schön.

Danke, liebe Tabea!

I missed guessing, but, I absolutely love your sleeping beauty posts. I would never drive one of those monsters, but, I love to look at them!

Oh, perhaps I might!!! Hop in and let's take it for a spin!!! Yahoooooo!!

Upped and Steemed

I would like to drive one of these old beauties, hoping someone would pay the gas for it! ;)
Thank you so very much, Denise and have a wonderful day! ;)

Vielen Dank, mein Freund! Das freut mich sehr! Dir noch einen sehr angenehmen Abend! :)

I don't understand much German, but I do know a '59 Merc when I see one!

Have a nice day! :)Thank you for taking part in the fun. It was already solved by @oxoboxo. It is a '59 Mercury Commuter wagon.

I didn't know it was a contest. I had a 53 Sunliner with the glass panel in the roof!

Must have been cool to own such an classic car. I love these old American beauties. On that great American trip, I've been also to Country Classic Cars in Staunton, IL - it's a dream there.
But I have also some 'sleeping beauties' left from my route 66 trip, I will post them in the days to come. If you have photos of 'Sleeping beauties' (but really sleeping - not restored) feel free to use the tag #sleepingbeauties.

This is what I got after Vietnam...

Oh, what beauty! Must be amazing to drive this great classic car.
Are you a veteran? I've been reading a lot about Vietnam, was a boy when it happened, but got very interested in it as a young man, no wonder, it was the time of those great classic movies like Platoon, Hamburger Hill etc.

Yes, Vietnam. Platoon was insulting and Hamburger Hill was only Ok. There's a movie called The Siege of Firebase Gloria that was halfway accurate. My SS 396 is long gone. This is what I drive now...

Beautifull picture, I like the color

Thank you so very much! :)
