This week I will be looking for different colored cars every day to shoot, Saturday and Sunday are going to be fun. Here's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Growing up in a post-Soviet country I've seen plenty of these Ladas. We called them zigulys and in the back of our heads it meant crap. My uncle even had one then I was about 5, now that I think about it, sitting in it is probably one of my first memories that I still remember.
Whistle I was taking a picture of this car an old lady on her bike stopped, it was her Polish husband's car, he must have had it for years before. She seemed very happy that I liked the car. Unfortunatelly with my limited Dutch, I didn't know how to ask a few more questions about it. I just thanked her and said that it is extremely beautiful how the car is maintained. This car was made anywhere from 1970 to 1982 and it's not a car that usually gets maintained this well.
These cars are simple, made out of heavy steel and no fancy engineering. They aren't great, but they are practically the only reminder of the soviet era that you can see on the street. I do have respect for them just for that reason, they keep on soldiering on.
