Bird Song Lost
she wondered
at
the birds
and their chatter
they never
well … I never
said much of any
thing of import
idle chirps
second-hand
confessions
rumours, innuendos
barbed caws
snivelling tweets
she imagined
once
greying and faded
plumes held colour
the dawn’s chorus
rang with enthusiasm
and praise
she wondered now
how they even managed
to speak
surely the gall
must sting like venom
on sanded-down throats
remind
bitterly
that once
they didn’t just squawk
once
they could sing
I have bemoaned more than once @melinda010100 that I can ever seem too, like almost never, get decent bird shots. Well the little chickadee in the first shot was feeling rather obliging and the proverbial bird in the bush became a bird in the hand ... well almost. I'm not complaining.
Ducks are a #featheredfriend that I find much easier to capture. Alas they have probably been hand fed, not by me, too many times and have lost any fear towards humans. The wood duck and his mate above showed no shyness and I could literally get close enough to touch. I didn't.
We do love to watch and listen to the birds; sometimes they are calling to mates and singing love songs; sometimes they are fighting with each over mates. What they never do is tell each other to stop singing or even squawking.
Because even that gander you are competing with for that fine feathered goose will warn you when the fox is about. Humans aren't quite so clever and have allowed the foxes to convince them to silence those that would sound a warning and gotten everyone two sing but two rather stilted and muted tunes in lieu of truthful tunes. Nuance and intricacy has been syncopated and dumbed down to tribal tattoos, hatred masquerading as a call to peace and love. Fear has convinced many to sacrifice the full song of humanity in the hopes of avoiding death; we haven't; inadvertently we have fed it more, sacrifices youth and vitality for a false song of care. The foxes have learn to mimic bird song.
From my Rumble Response ...
Past science allowed us to make educated assumptions about the SC2 and mask wear; assumptions that have since been confirmed as correct (Foegen Effect; respiratory symptoms equals airborne pathogen; seasonality; the ineffectiveness of casual mask wear for viruses; etc.) Our understanding of the metric system and fluid dynamics. Physical demonstrations.
Medical ethics (informed consent/relative risk) were ignored; replaced with jack hammer like mandates). Medical ethics don't just support human rights; they saves lives.
Adhering to past science that was not done in haste or to sell a product; adhering to medical ethics; would have been best practice. Listening to counter opinions of established scientists and doctors would have been best practice.
This argument that sciences changes (a true statement) is being used ... to quote George Orwell ... in the defence the indefensible. We were not starting from scratch. The policies of our health bureaucrats ran contrary to what we already knew and knew well. A good policy does not require the censuring of counter opinions. It uses them. The Great Barrington Declaration, the now near to a million people that have signed it, understand this.
Still the stakes were very high; it understandable that policy makers wanted to err on the side of safety. Alas all cause mortality proves they did not. So what is a better axiom than erring on the side of safety; utilizing censorship and censure to do so.
Nuance thinking and policy are an indication of good science and policy being done. Good policy is defended with logic and openness, an explanation of the reasoning involved. not censorship and censure; over-simplification.
We did not discover much new wrt to pandemic policy ... we chased our tail like any dog will when it's tail gets it waved in front of him. Our fight/flight instincts took over and we forgot what we already knew.
(Physical science is very different than biological science; you can't expect yes/no results).
Stop going to astrophysicists, quantum this or thats, or any scientist employed by the establishment or corporations and expecting useful critique. They are not lying to you but have projected the mathematical rigour and real world results inherent in their field of studies onto health and biological studies.
Critique is useful; seek it out; don't silence it, even when you think it is harmful or ridiculous; It is the warning call that maintains the flock.
Little Chicken, Twitter
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
Little Chicken Twitter did tweet
We all paused in our scratching and looked up
Oh my! Oh my! I think he’s right!
Quick, back to shifting sand beneath our feet!
It is time to look ...
The Ostrich and the Lion
An ostrich thought to believe in lions deranged
Until he saw one …
strong, true, and magnificently-maned
And so what was our scared little darling to do
He couldn’t run; four legs last longer than two
He couldn’t fly, having grown so tall
so ridiculously plumed
Fear not, for he knew the power of self-prophecy
Dig a hole, take a breath …
stick your head within, entirely
The breath on your neck remains a terrible itch
But you can pretend it’s just the wind
Lions don’t really exist
That’s right …
Keep your head buried in the sand and the grass
Get devoured feathers and all …
just like our stupid little ostrich

Simple words, but they have so much meaning!
Thank you:)

This is such an amazing post! The beauty of visual and verbal art simplifying the complexities of politics and intelectual independence so that even children can get it.
Animals keep schooling us and today, more than ever the fables of old must be read to the little ones. Hopefully, they'll do a better job when time comes.
I loved every bit of it.
What kind of flowers are these?
Thank you @hlezama for spending the time with the post. Yes, nature and animals can supply the metaphor to better understand our human condition. I agree.
I'm sorry I do not know what kind of flower they are.
Ironically, I tried to get some pictures of the geese out in the yard this weekend, and they all turned out to be awful, too. Birds. Pfft.
Honk Honk ... LOL
