Hi Steemians,
as every year, our small tour group of 5 friends gathered to go to Nord Open Air a small and free of charge festival in Essen. Usually we go to small club concerts together, but this time we decided to see the mighty Prong, Entombed, Cut Up and Annihilator. We are all true metal fans since the 80s regularly going to concerts and having a good time together with the bands and the crowd.
We arrived in Essen about 4 o´clock p.m. in the afternoon when Cut Up already played. The "noise" of the music could be detected from about 800m far away so it was pretty loud for that small P.A.
Thousands of people were scattered around the festival area, in front of the entrence, some just chilling, drinking and talking.
The entrance security was very friendly and verified, if we are ok to enter the festival area. The area where the festival was located, was nice in front of a huge church. It was very crowded with all kind of metal heads, beer enthusiasts and "normal" visitors taking part in this spectacle, listetning to the music and watching the shows.
Everything went smooth at the entrance and we headed in front of the stage to see an important band at least for me: Prong. Prong from N.Y. City originally formed in 1986 and could be described as a metal scene veteran, cause Tommy Victor who is the only original member, is some kind of a legend in the metal scene, still contributing to bands like Ministry and Danzig for example. The current line up of Prong is:
Tommy Victor, Art Cruz, Jason Christopher.
Punctually at 5:45 they hit the stage with the very first song, saluting the audience "a good motherfucking afternoon".
We let ourselves drift by the music and Prong´s groove metal. The weather spontaneously got better and the sun came through the clouds, providing us with an even better mood.
Unfortunately my camera broke in the mosh, and afterwards I was pissed off losing all the valuable pics from the band. Afterwards I should realize that some fotos could still be saved. Surprisingly at the end of the set I was lucky to catch a drumstick of Prong´s drummer Art Cruz.
So i was fully satisfied.
The next band was Entombed A.D. from Sweden, a death metal band playing since the end of 80s swedish metal. I like them a lot since I heard the Albums "Left hand path" and "Wolverine blues" when they came out. The characteristic distorted guitar sound is always recognizable and the vocal screms and grunts from LG Petrov the vocalist, who is a very cool and active frontman.
Summing it up: it was a very cool day regarding the music and the atmosphere.
We headed home after having some drinks at a nearby pub in Essen city.
Thanks a lot to the band and to my friends.
It was indeed a great day!
