Oklahoma Trip To The Illinois River

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I found Pipevine Swallowtail Butterflies and Musk Thistles

I had friends tell me they thought Oklahoma was a dust bowel full of fundamentalist Christians. I haven't found any fundamentalist of any kind including atheist. I found lots of polite people who keep their opinions to themselves. I guess that is the famous Southern manners I've heard about. No one speaks of religion or politics in mixed company unless you drink some whisky with friends, then opinions fly thicker than bees around honey. The only thing I don't like about Oklahoma is the ticks and humidity.

Taken With Coolpix 900 by me!

I think the Pipevine Swallowtail is prettier than the Black Swallowtail butterfly. I will be painting this butterfly as well!

I didn't know what this strange thistle was, it felt alien and I was right, this thistle was accidentally introduced during the 1940s. This species grows on over grazed grassland and nothing will eat it, but I thought the flower bud was strangely beautiful!

I think this is the Red River, I could be wrong, I didn't pay attention to what my daughter was telling me, edit, my daughter just got home, it was the Illinois river.

yes u r right humadity and heat is not accept...and all photos are wonder full specially to those plant

I come from the north where it rains all winter, ice storms and clouds through most of the year...I will like a delicate flower when it gets hot out!

I know it's not like that, but seems like the flower ate someone and now is completely happy about it:)

That flower is not from America, it looks like an alien pod being that will latch onto ones face and lay eggs in your belly!

This is fantastic and I love its ingenuity.

It's not that hard to sneak up on these butterflies, they are pretty laid back, but the Monarch butterflies are timid.

Those butterflies are beautiful. Great shots.

Hi @jonjon1 through research I found that there is a large family of these black butterflies, so far I've photographed the spicebush, black, and pipevine swallowtail.

Wow...another amazing post with nice camera clicks from @reddust
I think you have more creative camera eye...

Hi @dinisanda, Thank you very much for the resteem, I did enjoy this outing and need to get away from my painting studio more often.

These are So brilliant shots :D

You can't miss the great shots with such beautiful subjects @blazing, thank you !

the butterfly pics were outstanding one's

Oklahoma has some beautiful butterflies, too bad it's so hot and humid and full of ticks. I am a northern climate person and don't do well in hot weather...I wilt easy....lolol

you had an amazing exploring trip :D

Nature is always calling me to come and and explore...

Beautiful shots! Especially like the butterflies. :) They are one of my favorites.

I am going to make an effort to get out and take nature photographs. I pretty much stayed inside all summer working on my paintings. I do walk 4 miles a day, 2 in the morning and 2 miles in the evening. But I do miss interacting with nature. Oklahoma has a wild assortment of birds and bugs I like to photograph.

yes u r right reddust humadity is first thing from anyone...and all photos are really wonderfull

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest on the Cascade range of the state of Oregon. The climate on the west side of the Oregon Cascades is wet and cold, powered by the Pacific ocean with no humidity during the summers. I was not ready for the heat and humidity here in Oklahoma, however the people and nature are wonderful.

yes reddust u r right and i fully agree with u...i only talk on humanity that humanity is first than all...and i also not ready for the heat and humidity bcz it give more sick...

i agree with u and i dont believe on any country relegion and casts no matter any person anu region any cast humadity is the best which make us gather and give us lots of love and likes

Thank you @ilyonse, our nations corporate media makes out Oklahoma people as backward and ignorant people because most are conservative Christians. From what I have found that couldn't be further from the truth.

nice photos and really wonder full folwer photos

Thank you @milewilliam, the flower pictures are kind of creepy, like they are from another planet, but they are a species from Europe and not native to America.

today i dont talk on ur any thing i only appriciate ur photos mam u r a good photographer but i dont know before it ...really u r good mam

I didn't use my ipad camera, coolpix has a wonderful lens!

For the first time I see such beautiful butterflies. And how did they manage to get off close?

@dlina-v-metrah, I walked up as close as I could without startling the butterflies and used my focus on my camera to take close ups. The coolpix is a nice camera for people like me that know next to nothing about cameras and photography.

Such gorgeous butterflies. Looking forward to your painting of them :)

Thank you @sharronyasir, I may start one today even though I promised myself to finish a painting I started last month. I love painting butterflies!

I'm glad I came across someone who likes butterflies as much as I do. Sadly, none of my family members do.

beutifull photos and pretty butterfly in black

@kellyrose, thank you, the river bottom country is beautiful!

such an exciting flower which closed and opened i see it first time its wonderfull and also pretty butterfly

It's beautiful in a foreign way, I was right about it when I said it looked strange, the thistles origin is from Europe!

We go jet skiing on the Illinois River, where it bisects the Arkansas!

I need to look that up, I still don't know my geography here in the South. OMG, jet skiing sounds like so much fun with good friends, some barbecue, fishing, and hard apple cider...sigh

The Illinois hits the Arkansas at Ft. Smith. For BBQ, fishing and the rest- it's Lee Creek (the ol swimming hole) or Natural Dam.

i'm gonna check it out <3

Well if you do, give me a holler... we'll meet for coffee!

amazing butterfly shots.. i love butterflies so much,
i still used to follow them

I think hanging out with the indifferent beauty of nature is very healthy, you should continue stalking pretty butterflies ;-)

yes they are..!! in my little garden every morning i'm blessed to see these beauties of nature. i feel so peaceful and happy

I haven't seen what dreemit said, now i answer there, thanks a lot for talk the strict reality.

I just saw your conversation, I enjoy our talks though and like you. There are some unspoken rules here on steemit. If I am to upvote your comments it is generally agreed that is good manners to upvote my article. But @dim753, you can stop by anyway if you are low on sp and chat with me. I really enjoy that

Sure red. i have a delegation and i paid for it so i have to have my sp in 80-100% to solve my debt and have some profit, sometimes i can upvote people i follow but sometime i can't because my goal now is solve my debt and improve my sp, while my sp is 90+ i will upvote people as you with quality content and excellent personality, you can see what i do i reply you when i have something to share you or simply say you good job you will never see me reply everything just for fun, ethically i have to comment something that can contribute to that person if i can't add something relevant i will no comment.

Thanks red for your support :)

I understand @dim753 and we all care for steemit in our own way so don't take anything personal here.

Wise message i'm 25 i have many things to learn still

Amazing butterflies. What type of camera and lens did you use?
