in #photography6 years ago (edited)

It would be hard to find a city with a nicer location than Mikulov, spread over the last outposts of Pálava and surrounded by vineyards. It is the vineyards that tell you that you are in the heart of the Mikulov wine-growing region and with wine you can meet literally at every step - in the picturesque historical streets and the castle.

What do you have to see in Mikulov?
Mikulov's dominant feature is the baroque chateau , the seat of the Mikulov Regional Museum, where you will find the largest exposition of viticulture and viticulture in the Czech Republic with a unique giant wine barrel. The picture gallery will remind you of the Dietrichstein family, whose hands the city flourished for centuries, the chateau library and the exhibition of Romans and Germans in the region below Pálava, which won the Gloria musealis award in the category of Museum Exhibition of the Year 2007.

Who you should know from the history of Mikulov
The history of Mikulov was indelibly written by Cardinal Dietrichstein , who, in 1622, made an end to the melancholy pleasures that took place on the hill called Tanzberg. At that time the plague epidemic finally subsided, and the cardinal had the pleasure to build a chapel dedicated to Tanzberg. Sebestian. The place has since been called the Holy Hill, and the town has an early Baroque crusade with passion chapels. Dietrichstein tomb you will find in the former church of St. Anne at the main square of Mikulov.

The silhouette of the mighty castle is visible in the landscape of Pálava. Several well-known personalities lived in his walls, including Emperor Napoleon. The exposition "From the Gothic to the Empire", the exhibition "Wine through the centuries", paintings from the Dietrichstein family collection, the chateau library and the giant barrel are waiting for you.

The former liechtenstein and later Dierichstein chateau, standing on a prominent cliff, have been a formidable dominance of Mikulov for several centuries . Originally the castle was Přemysl Otakar II. in 1249 granted to the Liechtenstein. At the end of the 16th century they replaced the Dietrichstein. In 1945, when the German army retreated, the castle was burned down to the foundations, but thanks to the care of the Society for the Restoration of the Mikulov Chateau it was costly repaired in the 1950s.

The chateau library and ancestral hall are among the most interesting parts of the castle . Now the castle is the seat of the Regional Museum in Mikulov and you can find here several interesting expositions.

Unique in the chateau is the exposition of the winery in the castle cellar with a giant barrel . The exhibition called Wine over the centuries will guide you through the time of ancient Egypt, allowing you to visit a Romanesque cellar, a Gothic chapel or a Baroque theater. Movie projections are also prepared , which will bring in a fun way the boom of viticulture and winemaking in particular periods of history. At the end, an interactive "bike ride" is being prepared by the wine-growing cycle paths, where the visitor really sits in the saddle and lets himself ride beautiful views of the vineyards . The exhibition is located in the reconstructed baroque halls of the Mikulov chateau , whose space, in combination with sensitive illumination and compositional period music, has a completely new dimension.

Castle Gardens in Mikulov is one of the largest gardens of the castle type in the Czech Republic. It consists of numerous garden terraces , set at different height levels around the Chateau Hill. The garden is open from April to September.

Do not forget to stop at some local winery - it would be a shame not to taste the best that Mikulov and Pálava offer.
