Summary: Unlike Rustin's previous games this season, Friday night's game was decided by the defenses. Congratulations to the Blue Demons for their 12-7 victory over Rustin's Golden Knights. This post contains a photo-essay from the game.

As noted last week, the game was technically considered a home game for Rustin, but it was held in the stadium at Unionville High School. Apparently, this had to do with local zoning regulations regarding the use of lights at Rustin's football field.
Not sure if it was related to the confusion of holding a "home" game at another high school's field, but neither of the school bands performed half time or pregame shows this week, so as in week #1 of the season, this post will have to be mainly be about football. We had some light rain earlier in the day, but fortunately it stopped in time for the game, and the temperature was comfortable, although the skies were still cloudy.
Both of the teams had two wins and no losses going into the game. According to maxpreps.com, Rustin was ranked #1, and Kennett was ranked number #2 in the Ches-Mont American conference. In the state, Rustin was ranked #49, and Kennett was ranked #126. Nationwide, the teams were ranked 1775, and 3426, respectively.
Kennett's defense did a good job shutting down the threat from Rustin's #8 and holding the Golden Knights to a single touchdown in the game's second quarter. Rustin's defense also did a good stopping Kennett's offense, especially during the first half, but Kennett managed two touchdowns in order to win in a nail-biter. Rustin's #1, #42, and #78 all had especially busy nights making stops. In the second half, Kennett's #29 started to stretch out the field, but Rustin's defense still managed to keep the scoring low.
With about 1:40 left in the game, Rustin was out of timeouts and got the ball for their last possession. They managed to use the sidelines to manage the clock and get themselves into scoring distance, for a chance at winning the game in the final moments, but a goal line interception by Kennett on the last play of the game settled the matter.
The game was exciting, but ultimately disappointing for the Rustin fans.
Team | Location | Name | Q1 | Q2 | Half | Q3 | Q4 | 2nd Half | Final |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Kennett | Visitor | Blue Demons | 0 | 6 | 6 | 6 | 0 | 6 | 12 |
Rustin | Home | Golden Knights | 0 | 7 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 7 |
As in previous weeks, the following sections will contain a photo essay from the game. I am still a novice photographer, and had some trouble with the camera's auto-focus as the sky got darker, but some of the photos came out ok.
Unless otherwise noted, all images are original photos that were taken by @remlaps.
Marching Band
Although the marching band didn't perform on the field, they provided awesome music from the stands!
And here is a photo of Kennett's band (or drum line), from across the field

So the game kept the fans on the edge of our seats until the very last moment, but the loss was disappointing. This brings the team's record to 2-1 for the season.
Next week's game will be on Friday, September 13, at Oxford High School. According to maxpreps, Oxford looks to be 1-2, and their rank in the state was #249 before last night's game. We'll have to wait 'til later in the week to see rankings for both teams after factoring in last night's action.
