Oh my goodness, how beautiful! I haven’t seen anything like this in the wild before! The patterns and colours are just on another level. I wonder if it’s to attract mates or to scare off predators? I guess it makes it look big and with eyes.. I actually think that upside down it looks a bit like a huge spider! 😀
I love the furry moustache hehe :) but the blue and reds are insanely cool!
Thanks very much - there are a few different swallowtails here and they are all very beautiful. It is hard to be certain why they are coloured as they are but to scare off predators does seem to be a favourite theory. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate such thoughtful comments 🌈🌅🍀🌴🦋
My goodness you were able to get so close!! What an absolute beauty. It is so delicate and detailed - I especially like the third photo. It was loving your photo shoot! Great stuff @sallybeth23 :)
Thanks my friend for commenting - I grew my Moringas from seeds - they are not native to Spain but survive and grow here pretty well. They stop growing over the winter months but start again in the spring. My oldest trees are about six years old now.
Yes it is very hairy but through my macro photography work I have come to realise that most butterflies and moths have beautiful hairy bodies. It makes them a particular favourite of mine for that reason as I always love long hair wherever I encounter it on people or animals 😂🦋🌈🍀🌴

Wow that's pretty cool! So I assume the oldest one already gives fruit? Or does it take much longer? Thanks for sharing @sallybeth23!
