This was my view at 6.30am when Esteban woke up this morning in the Taman Petanu Eco Neighbourhood, just south of Ubud in Bali. He shouted for the monkeys at the top of his voice hoping they would come and say hello, while I snapped two pictures, stitched together to make this one.
The Hand-held Panorama
I have been very much enjoying this technique of blending two HDR images together in After Effects to create panoramic shots like the ones you can see here.
But they are not simple to create. The movement of my body is never perfectly in alignment with the required shots and I have to work hard in AE to correct the obvious joins in the images.
This is one I created a few months ago in the famous rice terraces of Tegallalang.
And another from Singapore last year.
The Next Generation Panning Device
The Syrp Genie Mini
Forever pushing the boundaries of my creativity, I have just invested in one of these.
(Thanks mum for giving it to me as a gift from the UK, avoiding the crazy import tax here)
Not only is it great for the very slow moves needed for time-lapse but it is also great at calculating the exact rotation (based on the size of your lens) needed for 360 degree panorama shots. To do a 360 degree turn manually would be very hard indeed. But with this little baby it will be simple to shoot and simple to stitch together.
The Syrp Genie Mini comes with an app which connects via bluetooth.
The app controls everything and is really simple to use.
Motion control 3-axis movement for time-lapse & film.
The Genie Mini can also be used in conjunction with second one to create 3-axis movement for your camera. Which for time-lapse is about as awesome as it gets, especially when the device is also attached to my meter long track. Total freedom of movement!
The device is small and lightweight. Perfect for the travelling man like myself.
Highly recommend it to any budding filmmakers :)
Cost on line for a single unit: $249.00 USD
All Genie images are from their site: https://syrp.co.nz/products/genie-mini
Love the first shot but it's the last pana shot I relate to but never get a chance to see though I go there quite often. Waking up to such a view as your first shop sure start off a day with peaceful feeling.
You know it. Sunrise is pretty special around here. Am up every morning to watch it without fail :)
Good to be able to enjoy this everyday.
For sure brother. It is essential to finding the balance of the day.
