Something a little different.
Beacon Hill Park in Victoria BC is a beautiful place to wander, run, walk or ride. Bring the kids to play in the park. Feed the hundreds of ducks in the ponds or grab you lunch or an ice cream from Beacon Dive In and relax on a bench.
I teach both land and underwater-based photography courses and one of my favorite spots for my students to shoot is in the park.
The parks residents range in all shapes and sizes of flora and fauna but the most colourful and photogenic are the peacocks that make there home in the park and in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
For students learning about the intricacies of manual setting on a camera, slow shutter speeds and wildlife person space are all part of the process. The peacocks are perfect subjects for fledgling photographers. They tend to stand reasonably still and they aren’t all that bothered by people.
Teaching photography is just another way for me to flex my creative muscles and doing it with student is a great way to keep me shooting and look at new subjects in different ways.
Bird photography can just be as challenging as underwater image making and I need to do something when I’m not swimming with the fish.
