Rockfish come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some can grow to just under a meter in length while other are only a few inches in length.
One of the most common smaller species of rockfish is the Puget Sound Rockfish, Sebastes emphaeus. Only growing to about 20cm (7 inches) in length, these slim bodied fish live fairly solitary lives, however they do swim in large schools in some parts of the Pacific Northwest.
Colouration varies quite a bit, from brown, pinkish red or copper with dark blotches fading to whitish yellow. One distinct characteristic is the green lines running to their eyes.
Photographing this fish can be quite easy, they tend to sit very still underwater and will remain there almost posing for the camera. Take your time and get the best angles you can.
Thanks for reading.
