What's going on?

Hello!

I was walking in the park with my friend, when I saw this. At first glance, it just looked like some dirt on the side walk, but when I stopped and looked more carefully, I realized they're ants. The interesting and weird thing was that they were not moving. Just few of them were going around slowly, but most of them were still. I haven't studied ant's behavior but I had never seen such a thing.
They were not dead, but they looked like a dead community, where everyone is still alive, biologically, but nothing is happening, people are sluggish and inactive, no interaction, no nothing...

Have you ever seen such a thing before?

Sort:

An ant that doesn't move and isn't dead: that cannot be! What a very weird phenomenon! And what ants are they anyway? With their little red heads - would suggest they are hot-heads and presuppose even more action. As if they have been frozen in action, you say? Sudden frost spell? A new chemical? Intoxicated by a sugar rush then hit by a hypo? (feeding from that paving, but eating what?).
We must get to the bottom of this. Fascinating biological event. Otherwise a metaphor of Biblical proportions, especially now you have compared these formica to people....

Some of them were moving, very slowly though, and some were still, they might have been dead maybe, but they looked intact.
I don't know what type they are, to me they're just ant.😅

Took a short video, hopefully I'll upload it today, it shows the situation more clearly.
