I lensed this sunrise across Las Vegas valley as I was flying at dawn to capture the beauty of Red Rock Canyon in the morning sun. As I flew over the Spring Mountains south of Red Rock I turned back towards the valley and came upon this awesome scene of Las Vegas as it slowly comes to life in the early morning.
The sun is rising directly behind the Black Mountains to the east of the city in the distant wilderness to the north of the Grand Canyon.
There are many things I enjoy in this image such as the undulating ribbon of a road which cuts across the desert floor from the bottom right of this image. I am at a high enough altitude to be able to see over a hundred miles across the horizon to the north and east, revealing the mountains of the Grand Canyon - Parashant National Monument and all the way to Mount Bangs in the north.
This is another cool image from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.
Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.
