Long Shadows on the Mojave Desert and Colorado River at Dusk

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

The Colorado River cuts it way through the harsh and rugged Mojave Desert in this image I lensed while flying and exploring the Mojave Desert Wilderness west of the Colorado River.

The wide spot in the distance is Lake Mojave and the small mountain on the bottom right side of the river is called Opal Mountain.

Taken in late afternoon you can see the long shadows of the Eldorado Mountains to the west as they play off the alpenglow colors illuminating the ground in different hues across the horizon.

Can you see the Aztec or Mayan style eagles head in the turns of the river?

This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to  raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain  unpopulated wilderness.

Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing  locations that surround us.

If you are interested in helping with this project I would love to have your assistance! Please consider upvoting and resteemit so that others may experience these wondrous places as well.

Yehaw!!

Wow and I've always wanted to be a potato so I don't know who's the luckier!? Thanks!!! Glad you "dug" it. And I am quite certain I can help you fly short distances!!

Beautiful Photo!!

Thanks!!!

Bella foto

absolutely beautiful. keep up the good work.

I appreciate the kind words and I will!

I loveeee the beauty that is this landscape. Makes me realize I really haven't seen anything of the world at all. Thank you for sharing!

That is the way I view it! I will fly into an area I think I know and then discover somewhere I have never seen or noticed before. Nature continuously astounds me with her majestic beauty.

I can absolutely imagine!! I am so envious, that you get to fly around such beautiful landscapes and see them from up top. That view must be magnanimous. :)

I love you always give your landscapes that dramatic feel - definitely your signature :)

Thanks cheeto.blue! I am just taking the photo! Nature is dramatic by its very nature. Sometimes too dramatic, in that it can be very dangerous to us!!! Glad you like it! And thanks for your continued support! I truly appreciate it!

Don't underestimate yourself - takes talent to capture the amazing glories of nature hey ;)
Really not a problem - LOVE your work :)

Another fabulous photo!
