I think a lot of it has to do with the reflective nature of ambient light off of the brightly colored geologic formations... this is a vibrantly colored area. Many times when flying across the desert with relatively low cloud layers in the right lighting conditions... I can see a glowing hue from the ground into the clouds... it is really stunning and I suspect this is what your father is referencing. Thanks for your kind words and hope you stay tuned!
