Our Black Bear Encounter in Massachusetts

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

In the mornings, I look out our kitchen window to see if any squirrels in our birdfeeders, if there are, I scare them away by knocking on the window.

On this particular morning, I woke up early and went into the kitchen to look out expecting to see squirrels and chipmunks eating all the feed. I knocked on the window before looking and this is what I saw looking back at me.

A black bear looking at me through the window.

They did not seem bothered by me taking pictures through the window.

My Daughter, Wife, and I were all looking through the window. This one was just snacking away using the birdfeeder like a cup.

This one was looking for seeds on the ground.

After about 5 minutes, they decided to hit up my neighbor's yard for more seed. We have not seen them since.

We called the animal officer to let them know there was a black bear family going house to house down our street. This was at the time we bring our daughter to school so most people were outside leaving for work or school at this time.

The animal officer was aware of them already. The mother bear had a tracker on her, and they were watching where they were headed.

Usually, we wake up and have 50 wild turkeys in our front yard, we never expected black bears in the backyard. This was an exciting morning right before school. We are hoping if they come back, we can view them from the window again and not outside as we are leaving.

Hope you enjoy the images I captured.

Thank you for reading!

That time of the year again, I am in NY (not the city) and we see coyotes, and fox looking for food. Recently we have a lot of ground hogs, squires and rabbits, so seeing the predators is a welcome sight. Deer, turkeys are common.

True, we just saw a Bobcat the other day which is rare to see around here.
