Saint's day in Serbia

in #photography7 years ago

Orthodox christians are known to believe in Saints.
Families celebrate a Saint that is passed down from their last generation once a year. Almost every day there is a different Saint's day. Every family celebrates only one Saint.
So, on that day a feast is prepared!! :D
Many friends and family are invited, they also have a saying: "You don't invite people to the Saint's day"(they should come without an invitation).
This kind of day is also celebrated in my father's house on 9th of January, Saint Stephen's Day.

This is how they set everything up for the guests.
When guests come, the host of the house awaits them at the door with cooked wheat with some walnuts in it and wine. Before they take a little bit of it and eat and drink it the do a movement that is tracing of the shape of a cross in the air or on one's own body. The one thing that's quite interesting about this is that wine is drank from the same glass.

This is how they interact, chat and eat...

There's usually a three course meal, but the one that is always on the table is meat. In this case pork and goatling.

This is a nice event that gathers people. Everyone is seeing each other after a long time, for kids this is a great time to play with other kids...
