Moving fast is not my forté. It is not that I can't move fast but I prefer to be able to spend time doing something rather than rush from place to place to perform a whole range of tasks. But, there are times that there is no alternative but to flick from one thing to another. This weekend is one of those times.
There are several separate events, a hundred core and a thousand minor pieces that all come together within a few days and some make others difficult to complete. Part of the training I do for clients is prepare them to be flexible. Multi-tasking is very ineffective but, the time it takes a mind to switch from one role to another can be developed and shortened.
Part of this is the understanding of how the mind does not like to have open loops and will continue working to close them and how it doesn't like to let go until a task is finished. Finishing a small loop, even if the larger is open can help the mind to accept moving on. Moving on in some ways is a bit like wine tasting where between wines, one must cleanse the palette in order for the tongue to be able to clearly taste the next.
I find that my brain works in much the same way and between core tasks I will take my mind to another point for a brief period of time and then return to what is required fresh and ready. Even this is not always possible though so then I try to order the tasks to be the breaks in between.
Or if there is no chance for any of this, take a deep breath and soldier on.
How do you manage many tasks? Perhaps you have some tips I can apply.
