Swing high, sweet...

in #photography7 years ago

Today (like many weekends) I am spending it alone with my daughter as my wife needs space to study for exams. When the weather is 'Finnish normal' it is terrible as we are stuck inside most of the time or, dressed up to face the elements. However, when the sun is shining like it has been the last week or so, it is pretty great.

We have spent the day walking around the neighborhood, kicking a ball on the field and of course, swinging at every swing we pass. We live in an area with apartment building and each set has their own little playground consisting of some swings, a slide and a sandpit. Our daughter loves going to each and playing with the slight variants in equipment.

Most of all though, our daughter likes the swings which is great until she wants me to swing next to her. Even a t slow speeds, it makes me feel sick. My wife gets motion sickness too so it is a bit of a surprise she enjoys it so much. I am hoping that all of the motion now will help her get used to it so she doesn't have issues in the future.

Some of the older residents at each building don't like it when 'non-resident' families use the private playgrounds but I think as long as the children and parents take care of it and treat it well, there is no harm done. People like their rules here though and some tend to stick to them regardless.

I think this is part of the problem with the isolation of cities where people crate imaginary borders around themselves because of the various risks they see. I find it interesting that they also extend this to a person with a child under two as if there is a high possibility of crime or something. People have become very wary of strangers and as a result, more strangers are created.

Rather than building a community where neighbors can talk with each other about the weather or the sports, there is a great deal of distance. This is also part of Finland as in general, people are overly socially adept here and keep as wide of berth from each other as possible.

I am hoping that in the future, people will again find the importance of having close communities that are willing to look out for each other and lend a hand if needed. I think it would go a long way to reducing the very things that people fear will happen. The isolation of individuals has lots of negative effects on the individual and this has consequences for communities too.

It is interesting that we spend so much time trying to build systems to connect us when we could mostly just go outside and have a chat to a neighbor about the sun, rain or what tomorrow may bring.

I will get to comments later as for now, it is back to playing with dinosaurs...

I feel that this situation does not only apply to cities but everywhere. I believe that technology is partially to blame. When I grew up, so many years ago, the back door was always open. When guests would "pop" in, they were welcomed with an offer to eat and a place to sit and chat.
Now days, people keep each other at arms distance. It is hard to get close to others. Now, I am not against technology, by all means! I am a science teacher and technology is an important part of my curriculum. However, texting, chatting, etc. has an effect on the social aspect of today's generation.

On be aspect of being buried in the screens is not learning to properly identify dangerous people, this will lead to higher rates of various issues that make the news, educing trust further. Social skills are being lost while people believe they are socializing.

I agree.

That's a big problem everywhere, people just can't trust strangers, prbly they had a negative experience or they are awaiting one :) I reckon in future you won't have to look out for each other, because streets will be covered with cameras, recording everything that's going on even in the darkest deadends! I visited Finland 18 years ago and found it quite safe and open for foreigners, wish to visit it again! Following you now, have a great day, mate!

or they are awaiting one

I think it is this mostly. Media spreading FUD.

Yeah, it is safe as and pretty open these days considering the relative isolation.

Following you now, have a great day, mate!

Cheers, welcome back :)

Enjoy the day with your daughter. these moments are special. They just grow up so quickly as time flies. When we grew up I think we were the terrors of the neighborhood. We knew which houses had fruit trees and when to pick them. Funny the ones that complained were the ones that didn't pick them but left them to rot. That should have taught me something about people and life. Communities are rare as somewhere along the line they separate. It has to be a good mix to work.
Speaking of balance, that is why you get sea sick. it's the same with me. Your ears affect your balance and this creates motion sickness. I have improved considerably over the years but still cannot read a map in the car.Luckily for technology people don'y do that anymore.

Yeah, this definitely tends to be the way. Collectors hoard their precious holdings so much they never use them.

Yes, this is also terrible for me when i dance as a spin or two and I am dizzy.

Hahaha your daughter has got some nice dress style, i wonder who she got it from, you or her mum, lol, its beautiful how you can be your age and your daughters at the same time, now youre here making an awesome conversation, next thing youre probably riding a dragon to the moon, how. Interesting, have a great time!

the cap is definitely from me.. ;)

It is good to switch from one thing to another although, they are actually all connected experiences.

I find it interesting that they also extend this to a person with a child under two as if there is a high possibility of crime or something.

I was thinking the same, there is no reason to stop a father and a small child if they want to play in the park.

This is also part of Finland as in general

As far as I know Finland is a safe country right? I mean there are not too much insecurity in the streets? Because I would understand people trying to keep distance with strangers if it is in an insecure environment.

This is also part of Finland as in general, people are overly socially adept here and keep as wide of berth from each other as possible

So it is something cultural in Finland for people not to speak too much with each other then?

Cheers mate!

Yes, Finland is very safe but it is also isolated, even within the country traditionally. They don't talk much although if you meet the Finns at Steemit, they give the wrong impression however, that is also due to the people here generally being a little more forward thinking and risk taking than average.

If it wasn't for alcohol (and foreigners), there would be no babies born in Finland ;)

Wow now i think i know where introverts originated from, maybe i should trace my roots to Finland lol

Certainly a lovely day to spend with your little girl. I remember the swing was my favorite fun equipment too, there's just something about it, lol.

About the rules and borders that those people have created, it's pretty much the same here too. We're definitely creating more strangers that way and I can only imagine what society would be like in 50 years

I think, depressed.

I think the issue of isolation is mainly because of societal degradation and the high rate of crime in our neighbourhood and society, people are now very vigilant about the kind of persons that come to their neighbourhood everybody is now a suspect. But we can change this negative trends if we can change our mindset to be accommodative to people @tarazkp

In Finland there is every little reason other than they watch a lot of international news.

A big problem, people can not believe just strangers, prbly they had a negative experience or they are waiting for one, will be covered with street camera, recording everything that goes even darkest deadends! Now follow you, have a great day

Who will believe this little girl with high sense of belonging is just 21 months old?
Hahahah

She's super cool and act intelligently than her age.. smile

People have become very wary of strangers and as a result, more strangers are created.

This is where it all began, we create such a bad imagination about people in our heart before we even meet them.

Until we learn to love ant treat every other individuals as part of us, our community is not safe for anybody to dwell.

Wish your wife success in her exams....

The words @tarazkp speak of the goodness of the heart. you're a bridge-builder, not a border-builder. Sadly, we are more and more won to do the latter. If we look at the countries, that is the tone: to create walls, to close borders, to divide. If that is the example of those who govern, what will it leave for ordinary citizens. Each one confined in his own bubbles or world will become a non-social being. It's a good thing you've touched such a high point since your baby's walk.

Good to see you spending some precious time with your daughter. I live in a village and her people would help each other a lot in moments of difficulties and need but the trends have changed somewhat recently. I guess we should more closely-bonded as human is a social animal.

I always love a father taking responsibility over their kids, you are really a good man up to the standard. Loving father with beautiful daughter , enjoy your day with your sweetie .

A man like youself is one in a million if I'm not exaggerating, I'm sure she is gonna be a good kids you always wanted her to become in the nearest future.

People do create many devils don't they. In South Africa it is now sadly too dangerous to play in whatever public play parks are left standing. She looks very happy and sure she won't be committing any crime at any time.

we should not blame technology

Aww.. This is so cute- father and daughter time
