This weekend we were on a route along the Costa de la Luz in Cádiz. Specifically, in an area that has become my ultimate destination whenever I need to disconnect a bit from society and relax in a quiet place with a very naturalistic environment.
We start at Zahora, where we are staying, a small hamlet of Barbate a few minutes from Caños de Meca. The long beach of Zahora is known for its fine white sand dunes leading to Cape Trafalgar, a historical point of interest where the Battle of Trafalgar took place which gave the name to the lighthouse one can climb to contemplate a beautiful sunset.
The locals divide this beach into two zones. The first is known as the Sajorami Beach, which is known for the chiringuito, hotel and restaurant carrying the same name, that appears among the dunes as an oasis to take a refreshing mojito.
The second area of the beach stretches along the natural area of Tómbolo de Trafalgar and is known as La Aceitera. Here there are saltwater lakes that form at low tide giving rise to these spectacular views.
Despite its proximity, the beach preferred by lovers of Kitesurfing just behind the lighthouse, is in Caños de Meca. Its location makes it one of the most visited destinations for lovers of this sport who adorn this reef beach with their colorful kites.
