Every year, the RSPB encourages us all to do a little bit of citizen science and take part in a national survey to count the birds in our gardens - the Big Garden Birdwatch.
Anyone can take part and if you don't have a garden, a local park will be fine. This year we saw:
- 7 longtailed tits
- 5 house sparrows
- 1 blackbird
- 1 blue tit
- 1 dunnock
I can't remember our exact results last year but I do remember we had a party of goldfinches daily, who have so far been largely absent this winter so have probably migrated somewhere a little warmer (though probably still in the UK.)
Unfortunately this exercise was cut short by an unexpected guest who clearly scared off the birds!
Much like the Great Back Yard Bird Count put on by Audubon in the U.S.A.
