It was a crazy day when you have sunshine and enjoying the amazing landscape views that the Antarctic Peninsula have to offer and before you know it the wind kicks up to 40knots and it begin to snow. As exciting as it is to locate and interact with small Type B orca in general, it is a little more intense in those environmental conditions. Not to mention makes it a tad more difficult to take photos.
After cruising beside this pod of small Type B orca for about 15 minutes they predictably decided to investigate our large vessel out of natural curiosity. It is quite standard for this ecotype of orca to do this after a few minutes. This lead to a close encounter with these animals swimming under the bow of our ship. It happened in a mere 4 seconds and this was the best shot I could come up with... You can get an idea of the wind and snow blowing over the black body of the orca.
Hint Hint ~ With whales that move quickly and spend the majority of their time under the water, knowing where they are going to surface and predicting their behavioural pattern helps you to have an idea of where to point the camera before you see them.

So cool mate!
WOW! Quite an adventure!! I respect all the effort you made in temperatures below 0°C. I know it's hard to put it on words, but when you saw those Orcas what were your thoughts? Besides " I gotta take this picture" haha.. Cheers!
Very cool! Beautiful photo, I’ve never seen a whale in person but I can imagine it’s an amazing experience. (Even if you are freezing to death) 😁
