South Africa a beautiful warm country filled with stories and people, a place with one of the developed economies here in Africa with an amazing population of 50.59 million people making up slightly about 5% of Africa's population. This country not only shares borders with other nations but the vast open waters of the Indian and South Atlantic ocean.

If I would ask somebody to name the Capital city of South Africa most people would probably answer Johannesburg because its one of the biggest city and just seems like the right thing to say.Even though its the largest and financially important city in all of South Africa, that answer is not actually correct. The truth in fact is South Africa has three capital cities.Pretoria, for, example is the administrative side, Bloemfontein has control of the judicial side of South Africa and as for Capetown is the legislative capital of South Africa

South Arica is also quite a multi ethnic and multi cultural society it has one of the most diversified cultures and language in the entire world, and although in history there have been a lot of problems with race and culture. The nation has 11 official languages recognised in the constitution are English, Afrikaans, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, Venda, Xhosa, Swazi, Tswana and of course Zulu.Zulu being one of the most spoken languages. As for South Africa, it definitely has a record because there is no other country in the world that has this much official langauge as this country.

South Africa is also considered as a treasure trove for archaeologists. The country alone has produced some of the worlds oldest valuable fossils today and of course about a fifth of the worlds, gold comes from mines in South Africa.Talking about the ground it self, South Africa each year moves about 2inches further away from South America, this is a continuation of what is known as the continental drift.

When it comes to health and science doctors of South Africa has done something nobody has done before, thats is the first ever heart transplant, was carried out in the country. This was done at Groote Schuur hospital in Capetown. In 1967 the operation was conducted surgeon Christian Barnard, even though the patient died 18 days later, it was considered a success. This is because he died from pneumonia but his body did not reject the heart, it paved a whole new pathway into heart surgery which is helping millions of people.

One thing about South Africa is there are some beaches that you can go and hang out with penguins, which i find very weird because I thought Penguins really like the cold.Believe it or not, there are various breeding colonies of African penguins also known as the "Jack ass Penguins".They are usually found in the western coast of South Africa and one of the most famous places to visit these birds is at Boulders beach South of Capetown.

With over 6 million trees Johannesburg is considered to have the largest man made forest on the entire planet.Originally Johannesburg was considered a grass land but they changed that relatively quickly, this is because trees were planted in the 19th Century in order to provide work for the growing mining industry.

One thing that I have considered amazing about South Africa, is if you look at the map you will find something very odd about it and that is the country known as Lesotho, completely land locked and surrounded by the entire country of South Africa. The other interesting thing that is a coincidence in South Africa it's the only country in the world to have two Noble Peace Prize winners who had houses on the same street, Vilakazi street in Soweto Johannesburg. The Nobel Peace Price winners that lived there where Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

However, South Africa is not just a place of science and opportunity, its also a place of sport.Football is one of the popular sports in the country.South Africa was the first African country to host the FIFA World Football Cup in 2010, but that's not the only sport it can pull a record from, it is the only second country in the world to have hosted Cricket rugby union and soccer world cups after England.

There is one other thing that the country can really be proud of, it is the only country in the entire world to build nuclear weapons and to voluntarily dismantle its own nuclear weapons programme and to this day there is o country that has ever done it on a voluntary basis.South Africa may be on the Southern tip of Africa but accounts for almost 25% of the GDP of the entire African continent. Its economy is twice the size of Algeria which comes up second in GDP.

Love this. You really made me yearn for Cape Town with those pictures. South Africa is a great country and I loved the time I was living there. Your summary of our country really reinforced my pride in our nation. It's a fantastic country full of beautiful people who have struggled to make the best of what they were given. While there are still serious issues to be solved, I think it's really sad that our country is often underrated and underappreciated, when in fact it's actually one of the few success stories in Africa.
Our rainbow nation has a special place in my heart wherever I may physically be.
BTW anybody from CT knows the penguins at boulders, but I've never heard the term "jackass penguins", really funny. Those little rascals can be quite annoying, but you just have to love them. They are 100% true capetonians.

didnt know most of it, especially the penguines surprised me, awesome post

Thank you
