St Paul's Cathedral architecture - Melbourne, Australia

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I don't know much about old or modern architecture, but what I do know is that it takes someone pretty damn clever to come up with the design. I also don't know what it is about old Gothic architecture, but there is something awesome and mesmerizing about it, the angles, shapes, texture and shades of stones used are marvelous, for me it's mind boggling how all of this was designed without CAD with such precision, although not as old and big as the European counter part but nonetheless still very impressive.

Initially built in the 1852, 1880-91 and 1926 the St Paul's Cathedral is one of the Melbourne's major architectural landmarks. Designed by William Butterfield which has a impressive resume with over 110 works.

All images are in HDR for viewing pleasure :)

Western side - It could be my OCD but there are so many details to look at. My eye just jumps from one window to another.

Eastern side - Not only is the design spectacular, but the brick masonry and sculptors do incredible work, you have to appreciate the details.

Grate Architecture too. and Beautiful Pick

Thank you!

Beautiful pictures. Great architecture too.

Thank you sir :]

Ahh I love this kind of architecture! Back from a time when overthinking things and being detail obsessive was seen as a good thing rather than an amusing quirk XD Love the sky in all of them, think the second one is the most striking. Or maybe just demanding of attention/overwhelming with the millions of windows.

I totally agree, the attention to detail is pretty awesome :D

Great mason work, judging by time it was done and level of technology then, I'll say this is spectacular. The attention to details must've taken a lot of man hours.

I like this 3>

Totally, I love watching mason work especially if it's detailed as this!

Great shots. Steep prices for inside photos though. Is it common in Melborne to have it?

It was steep, well prices in Melbourne and Australia are overall pretty high, but to take a photo that's something else.

It's a pity that you can't go inside. but, be enough to appreciate beauty

Thank you man, and I agree, I just didn't have money on me and wasn't prepared to pay to get in.

Fantastic photos. I too love this type of architectural design. I could spend hours looking around these beautiful buildings and taking photos. 😀

Agree, I amazes me that those buildings still stand over so many centuries :)

Nice tomekkk. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers :)
