Hiking in the mountains here in the Rockies of Canada reveals some amazing color, contrast and beautiful scenery at all times of the year. I love the areas with color in the rocks, alpine flowers of course and snow capped mountains (even in summer)!
My recent posts of numerous panoramas I figured would be deserving of some of the shots (that are not panoramas) to show some of the great colors and contrasting scenes available, I hope you like em!
This really is one of my favorite shots, the colors, the awesome backdrop, constrast, its just right.
And the formations that are out there with very colorful rock towers is pretty phenomenal as well.
Its hard to capture the color in the rocks with the backlight of the sky, but some of it shows up pretty well here. Simply amazing!
Then the lush green slopes rising up to the rockies ridges and ledges and skies, is just as impressive.
The scale of these rocks is just as impressive, there are my hiking buddies in frame to get a sense of how big these are!
This bouder field was massive as well, and the trail went right through the middle (or you could drop down below it all to bypass the rocks), and it had some massive steps up and down, gaps that could easily swallow you and definitely an ankle killer if you are not careful, a beautiful area with great colorful rock and scattered flowers within it though!
I just love these huge rock pillars towering up over the trails and slopes.
You can't tell how steep this was, but its looking down and it was steeper than I could have possibly hiked down in it, but the moss, lichen and orange colors in this little rock canyon was super impressive. I would have liked to pitch my hammock across either side and stick around for a siesta, but we had to press on, it was one super long day planned without the extra time to spare at every cool spot.
Again the awesome colors in the alpine can really be astounding in places. The block rocks 2/3 down this ridge are all the massive rock towers in the pictures above, an absolutely massive place and ridge traverse.
This one is from lower down but again the flowers and lush green slopes are incredible.
Critters
And finally, you don't see too many animals up in the alpine, but of couse these guys are everywhere. Up at the summit, they are most used to people around, I'm sure find more than their share of food and this guy kept coming right over to my shoe.
The marmots were also scattered all through the rocky spots, with one typically out on guard screeching out warnings to their colony to take cover and hide.
This particular marmot was pretty funny, he just screeched over and over and over without moving and his screeches were so loud they echoed in the rocks and rock towers. We could him him screeching warnings for about a kilometer away after we past. Marmots have usually been quiet after a couple warning screeches, when I've seem them, but not this guy.
And finally, another shot of the alpines agains the huge slopes, backdrops and constrasting beauty of the alpine mountains.
This hike has some pretty incredible scenery and photography to capture it in, so I hope you enjoy all these series and photo sets. Please leave a comment and follow if you are not yet and would like to see more!
