You don't have to be a peacock to be beautiful...
“Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves" - Drew Barrymore
Seeing a peocock - walking around in beauty always fills my mind with mixed feeling. I always wonder why this bird is so beautiful and wonder if it is necessary to be beautiful like that to be successful in the world.
Am I handsome or ugly? Does it matter if I am ugly? Do ugly people have to feel less desirable and second rate citizens?
Hmmmm - that chain of thought does run wild. I, personally do not think I need to be a peacock among ducks, so to speak, to be successful. I will explain - however, let us enjoy the beauty that nature presents in this lovely peacock which I captured in my Nikon P900 camera in the Bharatpur Sanctuary in India in January 2016. Here is the hi-res picture:
Some of us have a god gifted (or genetically inherited, as scientifically inclined Steemians may say) personality, like the peocock that immediately impresses others. These people can walk into any room and grab attention. If you possess such a personality, you will naturally be very confident and will not have any issues in communicating with others and exerting your charm as well as influence.
What about those of us who have not been so fortunate to possess an impressive personality?
I think we need to learn to look beyond the shallow definition of beauty. I am not going to start preaching about inner beauty here! If I am butt ugly then no amount of inner beauty may help me because no one would get friendly enough to experience it.
What I mean is that beauty, as a concept, is a totally perception based thing. True - there are some universal norms of beauty for males and females. For example, symmetric faces, teeth that do not look like earth-mover buckets etc. etc. However, we must understand that perception of beauty plays a very big part in how we are perceived by others.
I could have an ugly face but perhaps my body is to die for - what then? Am I not beautiful? I could have an average sounding voice but my linguistic skills may be one in a million. Am I not beautiful? I may be dark but my smile has the power to light up a whole lot of lives. Am I not beautiful?
I firmly believe that beauty can first be accepted by a person and then the resulting confidence and smile will radiate it to others automatically.
Neither features, skin color or type of build matters - we must accept that we are a unique and beautiful creation of nature. We must have confidence in ourselves and face the world with a smile on our lips. The world will automatically start seeing our beauty.
This is how the transformation takes place in every person. We all start out as ugly ducklings - awkward looking and clumsy. However, as we face life and win a few battles, we all become confident and start loving ourselves. Voila - the new, confident and beautiful person is born! Drew Barrymore hit the nail on the head with her quote mentioned above.
In Conclusion:
Remember that you ARE beautiful but not everyone is going to be able to see that

What is the meaning of life if we all look the same !
Also, beauty is very relative. So many things and qualities can make a person beautiful. Great post, @vm2904
