The Awesomeness of Portraits taken with a 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens

in #photography9 years ago (edited)

All of the following images can be found on the homepage of mine and my wife's photography website, kentandcarolynphotos.com.
(This does not include the image of the lens itself.)

I've chosen these images specifically because of the lens they were taken with.

The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8

The fact that it's a Sigma is not very important, in my opinion. To me, it's the 150-200mm range of the lens, due to it's ability to create such a razor-thin depth of field when used in combination with a 2.8 f-stop.

And it makes for some amazing portraits.

These are awesome. I love the baby image at the start though. The expression is just perfect! By the way that is one of my favourite portrait lenses (as long as you have the space to use it normally outdoors). Half the price of the equivalent Canon or Nikon too.

Can't say I'm not drooling over that Canon L glass, though. We have 1 L lens, and it's making us crave more. lol

It's weird there are no Nikon "L" lenses you just have to judge how good they are by the cost or buy a macro lens as they tend to be the best quite often. I think the Sigma lenses are just as sharp the main difference is the build quality and solidity. It varies though, larger lenses tended to be more solid just by way of having more glass and even the main brand lenses these days are very plastic compared to vintage lenses which were made of metal.

I only found out after buying some second hand lenses how much of a difference it makes. Some of those old lenses are pretty indestructible.

Yup, the 70-200 2.8s (by any manufacturer) are always great lenses. my canon 2.8IS is my go to lens for almost everything.

And you've taken some good ones with one :)

Nice, we've been drooling over that one as well. That L glass is amazing.
We do have one L lens, but it's a 24-70. So sharp. Makes us kind of wish we could replace our Sigma.
Have you played with any of the Sigma Art Series lenses? I've heard those are phenomenal.

I have not. After buying a non canon lens once (70-300 tamron i think) I sold it right away and never bought non-Canon again.

Beautiful work! Upvote for ORIGINAL CONTENT!
Thanks also @winstonwolfe for your support on my recent drama. You're the real deal. Following and supporting you.

Any time, man. I'm one person you can count on when it comes to photo theft. I will totally grab my pitchfork and torch for that. Thanks for the returned support. :)

don't like the third picture, love the last.

Really, not the third? That was one of our more popular pics, too. We get requests to do that one for other high school seniors. lol

This is so cool buddy. Keep sharing with us @winstonwolfe

Love the last before last photo!!!!

Love them all. Beautiful work!

The one with the books is a bit odd, but I like the rest :)

That one was actually kind of by special request, and we got an amazing response for it at the time. That's okay though, I like the honesty. It does seem a bit out of place due it's fansastical nature.

She was one of our high school seniors from either last year or the year before, and we were blending a few of her favorite things. She's into dancing and loves books. lol
This one might have been a bit more appropriate for this thread, though.
Much more organic. Same session/same girl.

Yeah, I figured that was the case (that she was a senior into dance and books). I like this other shot of her you posted in the comment much better.
