Cedar Hills State Park

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Cedar Hills State Park is a Texas State Park located on Joe Pool Lake within the Dallas metropolitan area. When Ren and I lived in Fort Worth it was about a half an hour from our home, which made it convenient when we wanted to get outside during the week without a long drive.

Back when I was first learning photography Cedar Hills was often where I went to practice.

Being a new photographer, I went through a period where I was obsessed with sunsets, and Joe Pool lake often had some spectacular sunsets.

At this time I was using an old Nikon D70 I borrowed from a friend. While it was an older camera, it was still capable of some very nice photos.

Some of my favorite photos were taken with my phone, proving that it is not the quality of the gear that makes a great photo.

Later when I upgraded to my Sony camera we still came here often and I kept trying new things.

This is a composite of several photos looking North across Joe Pool Lake at the Dallas Love Field airport.

If you are learning photography, don't be too obsessed with gear at first. As the saying goes, the best camera is the one you have with you. The best way to learn is to get out and shoot as often as possible, and keep trying new things.

Absolutely gorgeous shots <3 These are A M A Z I N G

The golden light is breath-taking and that is such a good message about not fussing with equipment when one is starting out at photography :)

Lovely post <3

Thank you very much.

I have an older camera that was not top of the line when I bought it, and is less so now, but it is still a far better camera than anything that the great photographers had even 10 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have better lenses and even a full frame camera, but I haven begun to exhaust the capabilities of my current camera.

For now I think my resources are better spent getting to amazing locations and catching the best photos I can.

Beautiful pictures with great memories. I remember when i first entered into photography world with digital camera after that i got chance to own nikon D5000, well thats all memory now but i didnt stop myself capturing pictures by my phone... Nice heart-touching post.

Thank you.

I actually got into photography when I went camping at Copper Breaks State Park in Texas. This is a very dark park and the stars were amazing, it was June and the fireflies in the valley were equally amazing. I tried getting pictures of both with my cell phone, but it was not up to the task at all. When I got home I told my wife I wanted a real camera. She called up a friend of ours who was a photographer and asked him for advice, and he loaned me his backup camera, the Nikon D70s, and I was hooked. My wife got me my own camera, a Sony A 6000 for Christmas.

lucky man i must say you are hehe.. the pictures i tried to take at night always become horrible and fail project loll...You are lucky enough that your wife supported you a lot..

I kinda have to support him, he supports the heck outta me! haha. It was my idea to go with SteemIt, he has taken it to heart and ran with it. It really pleases me that he is able to use it for showing off his photography.

you are so much supportive... lovely couple... admire you guys a lot.

Well, thank you. That means a lot, sister!

That's awesome, I didn't know about Cedar Hills and I've been to Dallas and Texas a few times - I have friends that live out in Longview. Sunsets are always great to snap, hope you have more fun taking them!

We both miss Texas so much. There is such a huge and diverse community there. So much to do and see!

It is a vast state with much to offer! I had some ribs at the highly spoke about Country Tavern. Hmmm 😋

Where are you folks at now?

We have been in Tulsa, Oklahoma, about 15 months now. It has enabled us to get further up north on our county collections, but we will be here for a little while. Since winter is not upon us, we will probably just do local traveling.

I miss the BBQ more than anything. Tulsa has a few good places, but nothing will compare to Natty Flats in Lipan, Texas. Their Baked Potato Casserole was always worth the 1.5 hour trip from DFW.

Absolutely beautiful work! great photography style you have. God bless you.

Nice pictures 👍

Thank you. Have you been able to any more posts?

No, but you made me curious 🙄

Oh, but you should, you do such a nice job!

Thank you 😄

Such beautiful shots and warm words of encouragement make this a doubly rewarding post. Thank you. 😊

Thank you so much. He does such a great job.

I clicked on this post because it mentioned Cedar Hill. I'm originally from the DFW Metroplex. Grew up in Spring Grove and Balch Springs. I've lived in North Dallas, Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, and several other places around the Metroplex. You captured the beauty of Joe Pool lake quite well. Happy travels!

Oh, wow! So glad it could give you happy thoughts. Where are you now?
Ren

Gettysburg, Pa.

Oh, I can't wait to visit there. So much history to be experienced.

I totally agree with - 'the best camera is the one you have with you'...
Practice makes prefect!

Love that he is always trying to better shis photos for sure.

Good for both of you!

howdy there xcountytravelers! wow ya'll had a wonderful place to practice your photography! Those are some awesome shots, great job!

Thank you. We loved all the practice we were able to do at the Texas State Parks.
