Now i tell u Recipe
1 cup warm water about 115 degrees
1 tablespoon yeast
3 tablespoons of sugar or a ¼ cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 egg
1/3 cup Wesson oil or Canola oil
3 cups of flour
This recipe will make about a dozen fry bread you may double or triple recipe depending on how many people you will be serving.
In mixing bowl combine water, yeast, sugar, salt
Mix with whip then add the egg; whip again before you
Add the oil
Mix all together and let stand uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes
You will see the yeast working mix down the ingredients now
Add one cup of flour; mix with whip until dissolved into mixture; this is what is called your sponge and very important to making good fry bread.
Now add another cup of flour mix with whip you should see the flour start rolling into ball now fold in the next cup of flour then knead until firm and sticky now
The bread dough should be ready to dump onto counter to knead
add flour with hands until it does not stick to fingers or counter. There is a certain way to roll the dough if you want this exactly the way that I do.
If you doubled your recipe divide dough into two balls and
Let rise for 30 to 45 minutes now it is ready to roll to divide into dinner size rolls
When done let stand and rise for another 20 to 30 minutes
While you wait start warming up your grease in frying pan. I use electric and set the temperature to 350 to warm up. When you see it start bubbling it is time to fry your bread
Take your rolls and smash them down flat now you can start frying them.
I turn the bread two or thee times to ensure the inside cooks. If your frying pan is too hot the inside will not cook.
Now drain your bread on paper towels to catch the hot grease this will take away the excess grease from removing bread from pan.
Serve while hot!
Hope this helps you to understand why good bread needs tender loving care...take care!
Thanks
