Today marks a exactly 61 years when Ghana gained independence from its colonial masters the British. This happened on 6th March 1957, its was Wednesday. Ghana gained independence led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah the then United Gold Coast Convention Party leader. He furthered transformed the country into republic in the year 1960. Since then Ghana had independence from the European colonialism forever.kwame-nkrumah-9424127-1-402.jpg

From the day of the independence till now, Ghanaians use every 6th March as a remembrance to celebrate this memorable day. We celebrate the day by giving the whole country a public holiday. During this day, schools and security agencies in country like the military, police, fire service and many more march and troop towns and cities to show the world indeed Ghana had gained independence.IMG-20180306-WA0037.jpg

The president of the country together with other important dignitaries help to observe this day in the country capital. Sometimes we invite other leaders from different countries to help us mark the day. This year it was Dr. Mahamudu Buhari the President of Nigeria who graced the occasion for us. The day is not celebrated only in the country capital but across the breadth and width of the country as well. Since we were colonized by the British, we form part of the Commonwealth countries. We have four major languages we speak. They are Akan, Ewe, Ga and Guan. However, English is our official language.

The flag of my beloved country was designed by Theodosia Okoh. Its made up of red, gold green and a black Star in the middle. The red signified those who their toiled and sacrifice their blood for the independence, the gold is the mineral wealth with the green representing the vegetation of the area. The black star is the symbol of the people and of African emancipation.Ghana-Flag.jpg

I love my country Ghana because of the following reasons;

  1. It has been and still one of the peaceful countries in Africa and the world at large.

  2. Ghana is the first Black African country to gain independence.

  3. Ghana is the world's 2nd largest producer of cocoa.

  4. Ghana is the world's 3rd largest cocoa exporter.

  5. Ghana is Africa's 2nd largest producer of gold.

  6. Ghana is World's 9th largest diamond reserves.

  7. Ghana is World's 9th largest Diamond producer.

  8. Ghana is the Home of Highlife.

Ghana, our beloved country is free forever!!!

Happy Independence Anniversary celebration to my motherland (Ghana)
