Thetis Lake Regional Park
Thetis Lake delivers the sense of being tucked away in the deep wilderness when you are merely 10 minutes from Victoria's downtown core.
The TLRP (Thetis Lake Regional Park) spans an area of 2000-acres.
In 1958, this massive park was recognized as the first nature sanctuary in Canada.
The district has done an admirable job in keeping it as a natural habitat for wildlife and vegetation. For the volume of traffic the park sees, it is kept remarkably clean.
Popular with hikers, swimmers, fishers, beach bums and dog walkers, the lake packs up fast in the summer with tourists wanting to enjoy its treasures.
No matter how busy the area gets, one can find private nooks in the bays for some privacy.
With over 40 kilometres of trails, the park is a hikers' paradise.
Thetis is near the top of places to visit on the south island. It is a one-stop shop for everybody's outdoor needs!
There are many unmarked trails where navigation can be difficult to accomplish. While most seasoned hikers find no problems finding their way around, it would be good for less experienced adventurers to have access to a general map of the area.
There are stories each year of hikers not preparing properly for the conditions. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Thetis Lake is a diamond of a park with such an abundance of beauty.
Located in the middle of an urban environment on the outskirts of the provincial capital, you will find:
- large main beach
- concession
- dog beach
- countless private swimming area
- large network of hiking trails
- fishing
- picture-perfect setting

I like visiting lakes.. And this is awesome.. This kind is a perfect place to unwind and self-reflect...you would appreciate the beauty of nature more, as well as your life.
It truly is! Vancouver Island is filled with beautiful scenery but what makes this one so amazing is that it is right in the middle of a city!

Thanks! The great thing about this lake is there are a ton of shorter routes to do where you do not need to be a seasoned hiker. There is something for everybody here:)
