No idea why... I see they did it in Portugual as well so maybe Hispanic folklore.

When designing shirts for my T-Shirt shop the jump off thumbnail for prints is this one.

I remember many years of giving to churches collecting for the poor of Mexico. Many lived on garbage heaps they would pour through for provisions. I saw cardboard houses and great poverty. From there are many levels of poverty and at each a level of value and thanksgiving for what they do have. So nothing goes to waist. Through it comes artists and many good honest values.
