Northern Lights in Washington

A year back I flew to Iceland to get a glimpse of Aurora Borealis in November. It was bone chilling cold and we had to drive on a snowy night to a place that was dark enough so that we can have a clear, unobstructed view of them. The first picture was taken in Iceland. I couldn't spend a lot of time in Iceland and the storm wasn't strong enough on that day to see the dancing northern lights. Since then I always wanted to go back to see them again and infact I was planning to fly again in 2018. In the year of 2016, I moved to Seattle. I knew that Seattle is beautiful with Mt. Rainier and Cascades but I definitely did not know that Seattle is one those places in US where you can see Northern Lights. I was so excited and since then every time I get a notification about Aurora Borealis, I would pack my gear and go to either Mukilteo Lighthouse or Gold creek pond. There were days when I could capture them and there were days when I had to come back with no sight of them.

For Aurora Borealis enthusiasts in Seattle, download and install Aurora app, check the kp levels (>4 is good) and check if Bz is pointing to south and if it is, its time for you guys to pack your gear (don't forget your tripod), get out of bed and drive to a location that has no city lights and shoot the lights or the night sky. Its beautiful.
