It struck me.
In the post-communist societies, I live in one of them, as a side note, there is still no respect among people.
Why do I say this?
Here, everyone is for themselves. The authorities and politicians only care about their salaries and vacations. After spending fruitless weeks and not able to elect a parliament chair-person, they finally reached consensus and then... boom... almost 3 weeks vacation!
Fuck normal regular citizens who can't afford more than a week vacation. Fuck those billions of Euros Bulgaria won't be given by the EU grants because the same people haven't created the required legislation and decided to have a long vacation.
Anyway. What struck me in particular is the fact that our cemeteries are very ugly. Well, some may be an exception but most of them are places you don't want to get back to.
I've been to cemeteries around Europe - Italy, Spain, some of the Scandinavian countries. They look like parks, gardens. They are beautiful and clean. I would bring a book to such places, sit on a bench and enjoy the silence.
As a comparison, the cemetery of my parents, more than ten (10) years after they passed... the paths inside... are still dirt roads. When it rains... dirt. When it doesn't - dust. The only tree around is the one I planted. No benches.
People... with constantly long faces, always angry, always ready to curse you or push you aside if you accidentally come in their way.
Probably 40 years must pass and all the slaves dies before this fucked up society improves.
Because, as Stalin had said:
"One death is a tragedy, a million deaths a statistic. "

The communist legacy truly was a brutal one
True, so true. We are still unable to outgrow all those bad habits "implanted" into our education.
I think I have a "Christmas burnout", all TV and radio stations here insist we donate to some charities and initiatives, and we must be good, as by default it seems we are all very bad in the other part of the year, from 1st of Jan up to 24 Dec :))) Something feels wrong to me...
