$1000 for a 'camera that can shoot wide angle' is genuine madness, I won't lie.
You can buy used cameras that shoot 1080/30 for $300 these days, and even new cameras that shoot 4k30 for $700 (used is about $500).
Sony ZV-1 and 2 are good examples of this.
Yet we waste 30x that on a rally car hardly anybody watches or even knows exists
Yeah that's utter shit, there's no doubt about it, haha.
I'm not against this, I just think sometimes the research into the funds needed for these proposals tends to be way out of what's necessary. If @brofund wants a bit of advice on what they may need or want, I'd be happy to throw out some suggestions and reduce those costs while also ensuring they're getting what they actually need.
And if this passes I might even consider throwing out my own proposal for some gear given I've got plenty of filmmaking ideas for Hive that never went into fruition out of gear limitations. :^)
I am planning to put back anything I don't use. Even with the $1000 float. So if it happens that within 6 months I'm getting offers and have a decent community and making a good sum - then anything I didn't spend will go straight back to the DAO.
It's just wasteful to spunk hive. I like it, I want to do things with it.
And you should absolutely put your own proposal in. This is a creators community, it doesn't make sense that only technical projects get funded.
That's more reasonable. Something to consider for a camera by the way: APS-C cameras are considered crops, so 35mm on an APS-C sensor is more akin to 50mm on a full frame. So if you want something wide and you don't have a particularly spacious room, you may want to go below 35mm and into 24/28mm. Also avoid getting a zoom lens unless it has a lowest aperture of F2.8, because you'll need a lot of light if your lens has a lowest aperture of something like F4, and you also won't get a nice depth in the background from it.
Agreed.
