When somebody wants to introduce himself, he often lists titles and successes obtained, I believe this defines what a person does, not who he is, and I think that the identity, that identity formed over the years filled with experiences and choices, defines the person much better than titles and achievements... so today I will introduce myself to you by telling you who I am... and I will do it through a metaphor. This story is particularly dear to me...
... today, I will tell you the story of a person who made a choice and ... first of all ... I want to tell you that I am honored to have you here with me... you decided to dedicate some of your time reading me ... and this to me it says a lot about you, it tells me that you are one of those people who ask themselves questions, who seek answers ... one of those people who have everything they need to make the difference. I'll tell you the story of a gentleman pirate...
"There was a child many years ago. He was curious, and he loved the adventure. He always read books and dreamed of becoming a pirate one day while cultivating values such as kindness, altruism, honesty, and friendship. And so... at some point, he created in his mind a character, the "Gentleman Pirate" ... a free, courageous man, a man who used to took everything he wanted, and yet kind, he supported and helped others, sharing the loot ... and he was the man that boy decided to be one day!
Growing up ... the life, the experiences, the choices made to satisfy the expectations of others, the beliefs created over the years, sometimes even the affections ... led that child to put that pirate aside, replacing him with a different pirate, harder, loner, a pirate who often did not help those in difficulty, never invited someone to get on the ship, never drank rum in company to celebrate ... he continued to fight and win loot, took what he wanted, apparently without hesitation and fear ... yet they were conquests tasteless for him, devoid of joy, almost tasteless, he did not share them with anyone, he had no one who could help and support him when he needed it, he became harder and more arid as time went by ... and yet he heard a little voice inside him , just a whisper ... he repeated that he had lost his way!
Obviously he was deaf, he ignored that voice, until ... one day he was walking by the sea and reached a pier that he liked so much as a child, the place where it all began ... he sat down ... and the voice became a cry, a charged scream of resentment and disappointment ... deafening, painful ... so strong as to alter even the beauty of the landscape he observed ... he was trying to ignore as always that voice that only he heard ... when suddenly a woman joined him on the dock, young yet with a look ancient ... he began to chat and he was almost annoyed, he wanted to be alone, in peace, to stop that torment ... the woman looked at him, with an intense look, a smile ... and asked the pirate:
-Do you know who that voice is?
-Yes!
-Do you think you will finally listen to it?
...the pirate thought for a few seconds and then... with a tear that ran down his face he answered...
-Yes, I'll do it !!!
And for the first time in his life he listened to that voice, the voice of the child whose dreams he had put aside ... and decided to continue his journey ... changing course and way of sailing ... accompanied by the sound of the waves, feeling the wind on the skin, the scent of freedom, admiring that sea of possibilities ... he decided to continue his journey, this time as the "Gentleman Pirate" he loved so much and was destined to be. In the years to come, the pirate welcomed many passengers on his ship, sometimes traveling companions, simple travelers, sometimes more experienced sailors who shared their secrets with him ... he conquered treasures, lived adventures, learned to sail in any condition , and he shared all this with the companions he met along his journey.
And once he became an expert pirate, an actual sea dog, our pirate continued to travel and, above all, continued to welcome new companions, to guide them to learn what he learned from his travels and from those experienced sailors he met. . "
Well, when I think about this story ... I think about my life, I find many similarities ... even I at some point decided to change course and navigate in a different way, I also met a person who asked me a question, I also have I had some help when I needed it. I was finally willing to ask and welcome it ...
