With that, the Commander folded up her list and tucked it into her jacket. Up on the bridge, the Captain gave an approving nod as he lit his pipe and stoked the bowl red-hot.
Night settled gently on the waters of the Great Lake Ontario as the sun disappeared behind the western tree line. The Captain stayed on the bridge alone for some time, taking an occasional slow drag on his pipe and letting out a deep blue cloud of smoke that quickly wafted over the dark waters like a wandering ghost. Minutes before sunrise the longboats arrived at the starboard side of the French Corvette. Commander Galligan threw a grappling hook over the rail with a 'clank' and secured his boat near the ratlines.
“Errisl, take yer men tae th' portside an' secure th' hull! Ahh’ll meit ye up-top!” He called over in a low tone.
“Aye Sairrr!”
With that, the second longboat quickly rowed around the bow and disappeared on the other side.
[Below deck…in the sail room…]
“Did you hear somethin'?!” Rank whispered in an anxious tone.
“Aye, I heard somethin'! They’s gonna’ board! Now sit tight blokes an' shut yer pie-holes!” Ripper replied with obvious irritation.

As Galligan extended a hand, the last of his crew scaled the starboard rail and they all stood on the deck, muskets ready as they waited for Commander Kerrislravenhill’s group to mount the portside. In a few moments another grappling hook flew over the far rail with a clatter and soon the second group scaled the hull. Now with ten well armed men, Galligan gave his orders…
“Ironshield, take Able Seamen Lupega, an' Trayan up tae th' bridge an' make sure every possible corner is clear!”
“Aye Sairrr, sae glad tae be at th' top o’ th' list!” He replied with a quick salute.
“Kerrisl, ye an' lae o’ yer men follaw me doon belaw. Ance oan th' upper gin deck, ye clear th' baw an' me an' mah men will clear th' stern!”
(“What’d he say?”🤔) Able Seaman Tamaralovelace whispered to Able Seaman Daveks.
(“I’m not sure…”) Daveks whispered back.
“Aye Sairrr!” Kerrislravenhill replied, “Gezz a minute tae pick puckle mair things tae tuck intae mah jaekit!” She replied as Galligan lifted a momentary eyebrow. 🤨
A scurry of footsteps sounded against the oak planks of the French vessel as the three groups moved out. Cockpit Officer Ironshield and his men quickly ran up the bridge stairs and began check every possible hiding place…
“We are on the right track!” Able Seaman Lupega said as he checked behind the ship’s wheel housing.
“Interesting! Good luck for the crew, and let's not stay far away!” Able Seaman Trayan replied.
