Renting, also known as hiring or letting, is an agreement where a payment is made for the temporary use of a good, service or property owned by another. A gross lease is when the tenant pays a flat rental amount and the landlord pays for all property charges regularly incurred by the ownership. People rent properties for many reason either they want to use it for a shortperiod of time of can't afford to buy it at that moment.
The traditional process of renting is the type of renting service that is widely adopted and used in the renting sector, most especially in African. But this process comes with lots of difficulties and problems like; lack of transparent renting experience, high commission fees and the likes.
The present rental markets is riddled with lots of third parties and intermediaries like agents and brokers (in Africa, Nigeria, we call them caretakers). This set of people are of no importance to the system, all they do is to increase rental prices by tacking their commission fees and making it less attractive for Tenants. The existence of intermediaries in the market is also a problem because tenants are not allowed to meet with the Landlords directly as they must meet with the agents first, hence encouraging little or no transparency in the market.
Another problem in this system especially in Africa is that Landlords or Agents usually impose unnecessary rule or laws on the tenants and some times increase the price or costs of rents at their own will which often cause lots of dispute between both parties. All these problems are causing massive setbacks and not making it encouraging for tenants, and there is need to provide a lasting solution for this sector with the PlaceToRent coming through.
