First off I am not creating this post to upset or shame anybody.
I'm truly curious of other's opinions on the subject.
I'm not going to call anybody out, that just isn't the kind of person I am, but I noticed something here on Steemit today that concerns me;
An account with almost exclusively plagiarized video content.
Like every other creator out there I have put a lot of time, work and money into creating my content and I'd be very angry to find out somebody was using it for their own personal gain without my permission. It would be different if they asked.
The worst part is the posts I saw had absolutely no cited sources or even any sort of written commentary about the video. Just one post after another of somebody else's work and earning hundreds of $$$$ from it.
I realize there are no official rules against this sort of thing but.....
Should this be allowed?
Should the community police this problem?
Is there anything we as creators can do about it?
Would a trending "plagiarism" tag help keep people honest?
I gladly give permission to copy this for reference if you'd like to create your own post on the topic.
Let me know your thoughts
Thanks!
You can always flag articles by checking the flag at the top right of posts. down vote and comment them down. There are a few active plagiarism groups and even bots like Cheetah on steemit you can look into if you want to get involved with as well. It's a shame you saw someone making a bunch off everyone else's works. It happens. Through stronger curation we can weed out as many bad apples as we can.
Good to know! It is horrible to steal another's hard work!
There are "Official Rules" and copyrighted material is forbidden. Hit the flag and flag it. I've seen accounts getting blocked and frozen for doing it.
We depend on the community to self regulate this behavior. That is why we get rewards for curating.
I was not aware of that. I looked in the terms of service, but didn't catch that. Thank you for letting me know!
Plagiarism, Spam, and Abuse
What are Steemit’s policies on plagiarism and spam?
If you are posting plagiarized or copied content, you can get in legal trouble for violating copyright laws. Plagiarized posts and spam are seen as abuse and will be downvoted by community members. If you are posting or using someone else’s content, you must ensure that you have the rights to use the content, and properly reference the sources where you got the material from.
I have a couple of posts that I copied and pasted the txt but I never thought of it as plagiarism. however I wouldn't be upset if someone posted my videos. still gives me the hits. but I do completely understand if they are posting as their own. I don't know how to download videos from youtube so I don't think it would be easy. but if I copy and paste more blogs in the future I will post the link to where I got it from so that the proper people can get the recognition.
Yes just site the source for credit...either image or post or video credit. To share a video from YT just copy the link and paste it into your post where you want it to show.
This is why I try to do my own videos! If I got nothing for the day. Steemit gets no posts from me. Lol.
