Awesome that you set the example for your mom.
I often feel my parents could make things way easier on themselves than they have been doing for so many decades. I spot a slight change though lately, now they're getting older and I like to think that us kids - and possibly their grand children - play an important part in this.
I'm curious to find out how they're really doing now, as I will see them again in a week or two.
P.S. I also have a really good relationship with my mom. It's a little harder with my dad, partially because he's a walking medicine cabinet.
Haha that's a funny way to describe him despite it being a really sad thing...I just try to remember that they have their own journeys and I can only lead by example.
It is pretty fascinating how we end up being able to impact them way more than they impact us once we grow out of our own bullshit though.
I'm still working on my grumpy old man too. I guess moms are more perceptive hah
Let's just say that my mom seems to be less stuck in her own world :>)
And yes, it seems like we become our parents' parents when we grow up.
