It’s December 21,
Christmas Day is almost here!
Ah what a wonderful
And familial time of year.
The bird is steaming and glistening,
Aromatic indulgence perfuming the air.
My nails are painted red,
And I’m getting ready to consume my fare.
However, everything is not what it seems.
The nails are red, but I’m not yet finished painting.
The bird is not a turkey but a chicken,
And is steaming due to microwaving.
I purchased this bird at Costco,
Almost a full week ago.
It sat in my sad little fridge,
Just waiting for this Christmas show.
No family around me,
No friends due to the “friendly” bug.
This counts as Christmas dinner I guess?
Honestly, I just need a hug.
I’m working Christmas Eve,
And also Christmas Day.
Every year it gets harder to smile,
And wish frantic parents Happy Holidays.
So please join me in this Christmas dinner,
Such as it may be.
Join me virtually and in your hearts,
And let’s all try to be merry.

That chicken captured my eye. I'm sorry to hear that family is not around. Cheer up as Christmas is in our hearts. Though they are far away I'm sure you are in their thoughts. Working on holidays is not good but I guess you have no choice. But think of your work as serving others, thinking about others selflessly which a part of the spirit of Christmas.
