Poetry

in #poem2 years ago

Years ago, I wrote a series of poems that I put underneath the umbrella of "Four Seasons/Phoenix" as a sort of pretentious way of classifying some of my teenage angst in a poetry collection that will never see the light of day. I have begun a second one that I will likely never publish, but which I think has some good bits.

I wrote one poem based on the rhyme scheme of AJR's "Next Up Forever," and there is a part of it which I thought was genuinely good. Here it is (apologies for the preamble):

"Thinkin’ that I don’t deserve it,
Not an ounce of love I’ve got
I think I stole every piece of it,
Hoping that I’ll soon get caught
Think that I'm just a stupid thief,
Don't deserve this life I've won.
Hardly left with half a family,
Cuz all I am is half a son.
If home is where the beating heart is,
How come it’s like I’ve died?
Better go and close those windows,
Nothing’s ever beating inside."
I may share other poems another day. For now, I just thought that this poem, filled with a lot of angst and self-deprecation, was an interesting enough share. That, and I am not immune to wanting people to call me "big smart" for my writing
