The Let Go (a poem)

The Let Go

Oh I love those things you do
To mess with my head
Because I don’t want to let go of you
But I don’t want you back again
I love being free
And without even meaning to
You took that away from me.
I don’t belong in the box you want
And I’m glad you found someone
Who fits in there with you.
But my heart is too big
To belong to just one being.
And despite the passion with which I love you
The all consuming desire to make you happy
Time would have caged me....
And all that I am,
All that I see,
All that you love about me,
Would have rotted into resentment.
I still just want to see you happy,
And now it doesn’t hurt
Knowing that there is just no way
It could have been me.
